Soon the Plans may be approved
and the WalmartAsda, WalmartAsda Petrol ,
McDonalds etc
will all get Updated with brand new buildings.

But what about the rest of the Marina
can they survive - once building starts?

How long ago was the Marina first built?

1987-88
was the Walker finish date.

Of course works started long before that.

Again Miriam
what is your point?

1988? Wow, not that old then ... in relative terms. Just about 20 years would you say?

It needs another access road to cope with extra development.

No it does not Dave
they are in the Black Rock area right now
the place that had all those Sand Art Works
a few years ago,
all fenced in.

They have a link now to the sea
to bring in more big rocks and even take ship loads of rubbish out.

It is a marina, it has always had links to the sea!

I am talking about car access. Unless you mean they are going to build a link road to Madeira Drive? That would affect all the summer events.

They have a road.
Summer Events can still carry on
no problem.

Yes but that new link to the sea goes
direct to the Black Rock site.

They start brining in big rocks and mucking about with the shoreline, they`ll be just ccreating a disaster somewhere nearby along the coast...

Have you been to the Marina? There is only one way in and that is bottle necked. Increase the traffic by a small percentage and you will get gridlocked!

You are wrong Fluffy.
They have brought in Big Rocks along our coast, over the last 4 or 5 years.
No Problem at all.

Miriam
of course some delays
but then the whole of Brighton now has delays
for a whole year (front page today, infact).

No big Deal.

Again what were you on about before???

Oh well, so the whole of Brighton has delays and instead of dealing with the delays we will just build in some more ... That makes sense I suppose.

As for my point regarding the length of time the Marina has been built. I would have thought that it is obvious really ... this is not a small project, it has never been a small project. It seems strange that a large public project like that should not have addressed itself to a longer life cycle. Almost as if redundancy was built into it from the start really.

As for the single road access ... that will be the death of the Marina long before anything else is.

Just like they looked forward to the flats in the New England development ... paper-thin walls and no access to the bin area.

Don't see the Council improving on that Miriam, there will be limited parking for the new residents when built.
The council have a habbit of ignoring the impact on infrastucture...

I've often wondered what would happen if the road in/out was damaged or blocked. What would happen to all the people living in or visiting the marina? Think worst case scenario, if the road collapsed and needed months to rebuild. What would happen????

There is a lot of disgust in the Marina at the way the latest plans were sneaked in over Christmas/New Year for residents' comments. Same old trick as under Labour. And the Council wants to take away gates to make a cycle path... Residents deeply distrust Councillor David Smith. There will be an increase in the Green vote there at the next Election. Greens take Rottingdean?

Lets face it, the Marina is a false environment reclaimed from the sea. If the developers got their way, it would all in infilled so we can only expect as much housing as possible to be crammed into the area available.

On a busy weekend, traffic entering into the Marina backs up to Wilson Ave and also has a knock on effect at the junction at the top of Wilson Ave and the traffic goes back to Bear Road. Adding in several thousand properties is not going to help and there will still just be one road in / one road out. You'd have thought, without creating new transport infrastructure, this simple, fundamental factor would strangle this project at birth. But it doesn't.

There will come a time when that raised road will have to be closed for maintenence - planned or otherwise.

We do not know
if that New Tower
will have its own road yet.

And yes it may close for some time,
But the All New Big Subway will stay open for the many builders.

You say I`m Wrong, LT. I hope so. But, time will tell. I`m saying that if you start taking rocks, shale, or whatever, from one bit of coast to another, you`re courting eventual disaster, somewhere along that coast, sooner or later.
