On Radio 5 Live this morning a Postal worker was saying why the changes are wrong.
He said it is more about working practices His example was a route he does and two other people do, he finishes 2 hours ahead due to his efficiency, so Royal Mail will then put him on other duties for those two hours. But he did the whole job.
So long as he does the Whole route then it should not matter if he does it quicker.

| By that reasoning, if a route takes longer ... because of say additional post loads like at Christmas time, then they should not expect overtime either. |

They have agreements on all this, on that BBC radio 5 interview he also said they deliver TNT post for next to nothing. He said they are waiting for the Royal Mail sell off. |

| If he is employed to work 'x' number of hours then he should work 'x' number of hours. |

Would he prefer it if they paid him per letter delivered? Probably not.
Would he prefer it if they paid him an hourly rate and sent him home when he'd finished so he could earn less money? Probably not.
FACT is, a lot of people working in this country are contracted for x amount of hours a week. If they finish whatever work they're doing early they do something else until the end of the day. This is nothing new and i don't see why the royal mail should be treated differently. |

He should get his strike in while he can then. By the time he gets back to the depot one day the government will have sold them all off. Privatisation is on the way so a strike will only help the government not the posties. By the way, why doesn't he use the traditional American postal service method of dispute resolution......... |

I didn't mean to imply that you were a postman LTNS however you do seem to think that this 'agreement' is important so I wondered whether you knew what the exact agreement was, that's all. |

hey now! ...
I think the US postal service is mostly obsolete anyway...their function is being replaced by Fax, Email, UPS and Fed Ex...perhaps the Royal Mail is in the same position??? How much mail is left? With Online banking and bill payment our family mail is mostly "third class" advertisements and junk mail. |

The Strike is set for the next 28 days.
Sign Of The Times.

| 24 hours? I doubt it has that much effect LTNS. Though they will use it as an excuse of course. |
