Such a sad story, find it so shocking that somebody can die and not be missed for 18 months...

It is sad,and it`s tempting to think this happened because of the anonymity of living in `a block of flats`, but there are similar cases in the press from time to time, and it happens in any other kind of dwelling. Not long back our local paper ran a story of a woman dead for a few months in a terraced house on a busy street....
The sad thing is that the folks whose lives end this way have usually chosen to cut themselves off from human contact. The `choice` may well have been made when there was some mental illness like depression, early dementia, or just an undiagnosed decline, the person feeling less and less inclined to endure (let alone seek) the company of family or neighbours. Often, there are pets that have become surrogate family to the reclusive individual, and these poor creatures are also found very dead when eventually someone decides to check out the dwelling. |

Please don't write everyone off Nightbird. Where I live we all very much care about each other and help our neighbours, usually with a just a kind word but also in more practical ways.

Not only the neighbours but even his family didn't care evidently ... not only that but this was a man with known mental health issues - depression - and an medical condition that was being cared for and the hospital just wrote of his non-attendance ... What a wonderful caring world we live in. |

What a sad uncaring society we live in now, nobody takes any resposibility to check on a neighbour or relative when not seen for days.
Blame direct debits by all means LT but don't blame others when society dosen't give a dam about you at some stage...... |

The man was dead for 18 months ... he was past caring but what is perhaps more horrifying is the thought that there are people living who haven't spoken to a single soul for 18 months and no one has noticed! |
