Of course it isn't Sully ... this whole thing however is another instance of a bloomin' government appearing to be doing something when in effect it is just pussy-footing about.

The nature of the holiday should also be taken into account, but I believe it has "always" been illegal to take your kids out of school without permission.

It's no big deal to ask first, surely? I've never been refused permission by my children's schools.

Some parents are much better teachers than other parents. Their children are always learning, even when not at school. These are the children who succeed, the children whose parents take an interest. So many do not.
