Hear hear
quote:
“To see the issue of antisocial behaviour by teenagers as a problem for the police to resolve is naive. As a nation I believe we need those who sell the alcohol to young people, those who price strong alcohol so cheaply, those who promote alcohol as glamorous, those parents who turn a blind eye to where their children are, those teenagers who ignore the rights of others to live without intimidation or abuse — we need all these elements of our society to rack their conscience and consider what duty they have to beat the scourge of antisocial behaviour by young people.”

DaveB, most folks didn`t even realize which were the Specials and which were the `regulars`. They never got the political publicity that the poor sod PCSO`s have to overcome!
Daveb Posted - 14/08/2007 : 20:03:34
You can't trust the specials like the old-time coppers
When you can't find your way home.

Also what we need is for folks to have a less ambivalent attitude towards the (real) police. People expect a lot from them, it`s been said here that they`re needed - but also that they never get to an incident in time, or fail to deal with the instigators, and a lot of folks just slag them for being some kind of authority figures - paradoxically, these are often the same people who complain at the PCSO`s lack of authority.
Communities need to support the effort of police in the community - that`s where the PCSO`s come in, I think, and their role should not be belittled.
We have had police `Specials` for many years, called upon rather like Retainer Firemen, as extra support for the professionals when required. Nobody ever used to moan about these Specials as not being proper coppers. The opposition to PCSO`s is largely just a political gripe that the gripers have, I reckon!

I do agree with Miriam here. Communities - be they in village or city blocks - need to stand united against thuggery, and lone individuals should never take on a pack like this.

As for the 2 16-year-old PCSO`s, I`m thinking....if the applicants are judged on merit, then these are probably very exceptional candidates. Personally, I know some 18 and 21 year-olds who I`d hesitate to refer to as `adults`...

"Police just seem to look younger all the time"

Isn't that a sign of getting older?

Yes Miriam you make great sense on this.
But not enough people are like you,
On Panorama a brave Mother tried hard
but her alone is not enough.

It is a Society
in need of a change
and I do not feel New Labour (who are Neo Conservatives)
are going the right way about this.

It is the only way to get an immediate response. The police are not there to hold our hands. These are our streets, our communities and our mothers/fathers/sons/daughters ... we either accept that or we hand over control to scum.

From past experience the response would have been slow in coming if at all. Having said that, I regret to say that trying to confront a group of people hell bent on trouble on your own is perhaps not the most sensible thing to do.

The only way we are ever going to address anti-social behaviour is if we stand up as a community.

On the radio the police said the victim should have called the police to deal with the situation.
Do you think he would have got a response?

They would be no good,
of course.

These Community (road sweepers)- that is what they are, in effect,
are not going to save the UK.
Only Real Honest Police can do that.
And we have not got enough Real Police now.

Panorama on BBC1 UK TV now
is showing the big numbers of Youth killed
on the Streets of London.

The only way we are ever going to address anti-social behaviour is if we stand up as a community. Anything else is just papering over the cracks at best and attempting to address the scum single-handed can lead to the tragic consequences as per the article quoted by Daveb.

You need to get a TV.

Every Interview On London Local News
had parents shouting about the lack of "Real" Police.

As for Proof
you must be joking
it is in every Paper.

In that case you should have no trouble proving that the number of murders have increased because of the Police Community Support Officers.

Except that you can't can you LTNS, because you were yet again, spouting your own prejudiced tosh.

And of course
under Stinking Browns Anti-Terror laws
more and more Real Police are now going to that Heathrow Demo.

While Real Crime goes on in London.

Blair set up this Wallpaper
Community police(who are not real police).
Then got the Real Police Downsized
to get money saved.

So yes Stinking New Labour
set up all these no good ideas,
meanwhile more are murdered in the UK
due to lack of Real Police.
FACT.
