The Argus online today has a headline about a "twarted bank raid gang".

Any other gangs would be well advised not to enlist such Argus staff for a raid as such cackhandness would thwart the enterprise.

Anyone heard about this weeks Sunday Argus ?
Miriam Binder Posted - 02/08/2008 : 16:36:57
Why bother with printing a picture of a groper in the first place? Has it really come down to this?
Infinite Poppadum Posted - 02/08/2008 : 13:18:03
Today's Argus has to apologise for the other day printing a picture of a Clive Roberts who was prosecuted for groping staff. However, the paper's picture was of somebody else with that name, a restaurant owner. Today it has printed a picture of the groper.

Shouldn't it be pursuing journalistic standards instead of scratching about with a feeble website?

The Argus's owners have taken a huge loss of advertising.

The Argus needs a complete re-think about what it is doing. As things stand, it is difficult to envisage it lasting much longer as a paid-for daily.

What a lost opportunity it is.

Judging from the comments after stories, the Argus's 'readers' appear to consist of right wing shit for brains.
Control Panel Posted - 16/07/2008 : 21:49:14
What a mess the Argus site has become today.

That will lose it readers.
Furzewick Posted - 16/07/2008 : 20:18:11
Great link !
Also as mentioned above, the Argus comments via the Guardian link posted earlier are well worth reading.

New website today. Missing articles and letters.
Have they got their priorities right ?
Control Panel Posted - 16/07/2008 : 17:03:42
The Guardian piece has had some interesting comments made beneath it since this morning.

Several say that the Argus has managed to miss all of the potential markets it could reach. It had not achieved the right balancing act..

It could be doing so much more.

News here of editorial cuts at the Argus, which will only have one edition a day and is stopping the Sports Argus. So the proof reading will get even worse... If they increased the editorial staff and sought out news, sales would go up.

The paper had a great opportunity but became caught up in the "city" hype and alienated readers, who want real news. Odds are that it will become a free weekly.

Well they should not be. If it ain't wanted they should remove it,

Then again, the council being ultra selective about what they will and will not tackle in the way of graffiti can be pretty frustrating!

Local Argus news (not spelling) but what the heck.
The comments have all been deleated. Several referred to the Holocaust for some reason and others took offence at other things.
I did not read all that it went into but some of the commenters appeared to be in need of a life.
Infinite Poppadum Posted - 12/05/2008 : 20:39:07
An Argus headline - about schools! - here refers to "younsters" (unless it has since been corrected, but it is there in the spelling of the link as well).

At least the Argus has here used "inflammable" correctly - instead of the non-word flammable

Interesting news here that in Madison the local paper is now only online.

The Argus here refers to a "breathing apparatus team". I should hope that they are breathing...

This should be "breathing-apparatus team" to make the first two words into an adjective.

Infinite Poppadum Posted - 27/03/2008 : 08:56:56
The Argus is confused here.

In the headline it is "Burger King leave..." when it should be "leaves" as the noun is singular, and indeed it is right in the very first line of the article itself by having "Burger King has..."

How can the Argus have articles on education when this is what it demonstrably lacks?

People have pointed out here that the Argus has used the word "insecure" of a flat when it should be "unsecured".

Yes, it's quite easy:

The principal had principles - until the biology mistress led him astray.
FG1 Posted - 20/03/2008 : 16:25:25
Back to first principles. Quite right infinite.

Principle is only a noun. Principal can be a noun and an adjective but the two words have different meanings.

But the adjective to mean "of first importance" is indeed "principal" - having first place.

"principle" is a moral quality.

For example, "LTNS was of the opinion that Tony Blair was the principal judge of the principles claimed by residents in England".
