Take a pinch of pre-conception

Stir well with some dried liberty cap (whilst avoiding the authoritarian state that has now made this activity illegal)

Now add some hot water to create an existential broth, drink broth whilst dancing widdershins around Hollinbury Hillfort.

Leave to settle for half an hour with ale and wait for the giggles to rise.

Finally begin your assertions and the assumption, alternatively ask the elves and they will give you further directions.

Anyone who goes of half cocked without thoroughly considering all the ramifications is at fault. Whether that is that mob in your favourite muddy field or over opinionated feminists of whatever gender.

Shouting the loudest is not always the best way of getting the most suitable results.

It is women that gt women unchained Moon and don't for one moment think that it is either you or your ilk of ill informed protesters that had anything to do with it. In fact it is thanks to the baying mobs of flipping protesters that we only got half way to full emancipation.

Fiancial Expediency.

The people who dress up as clowns do so to make it light-hearted and try and ease the tensions caused by large amounts of riot police with their batons at the ready. Have you any evidence that they were 'attacing police officers?' or is this just more bollocks sterotyping?

The Rebel Clown Insurgance movement is totaly differnt group of people then the Black Bloc anarchist or the Wombles who do have a violent agenda. I didn't see any groups of masked up anarchist in the pictures I saw though.

Face it this wasn't a violent protest.

The Countryside alliance are more likely to have a scrap with the police then this bunch of fluff bunnies.

What you are failing to acknowledge Moon is that those women acted without chaining themselves to railings or super-gluing themselves to revolving doors. They did not cause the involvement of the emergency services and did not waste precious man-hours that are all going to have to be funded by the taxpayer.

Changes like that are coming about and will continue to come about regardless of the crusty elements in their self absorbed righteous indignation. And precisely because of the adaptive and self preserving nature of mankind that BiH referred to.

Yes I always mentioned I think lobyying is better than direct action.
However without all the press attention that was created by the protest movement in the past, would they have known about environmental issues?

I agree totally. Every year we have a couple of festivals in town which both have a strong emphasis on promoting green lifestyles. One, the food festival, reaches a far larger audience than the Heathrow climate camp could ever hope to and achieves this without people chaining themselves to railings or preventing people from going about their daily business.

Yes I agree the type of local food festival you talk of probaly does more to presuade people of the benifets of a greener lifestyle. I bet the food was better too!

How do you know the planet can't sustain these lifestyles? I bet 100 years ago people would have sworn that the earth could NEVER support 7 billion people, and yet we do. Many environmentalists seem to have a blind spot when it comes to humanity's amazing ability to adapt, change and invent their way forward. They are always predicting doom and gloom while the changes that are needed are being made by researchers funded by the very large industries and corporations that the gloom-mongers have so much bile for. Ironic, really.

I know the planet can't sustain our current lifestles becuase there is a vast wealth of scientific evidence about the effect that climate change will have. Allready desertification and the need for Bio Fuels is putting pressure on the global production of food. Do you really think that if all 7 Billion people on the planet used as many resources as the average American the planet's resources could cope?

Face it we have to move towards a system in which materials are recycled, waste should turn into a new material and so on. Energy should be produced and renewed in harmony with natural systems.

The mistake you make Borninhove is to assume this warning about our current lifestlye is always equated with the pessimistic doom mongering which exists in some quarters. I have every faith that we will adapt and change to meet the challenges we face. This protest is part of the adaptive processes of change.

Large corporations are changing and investing more in sustainable business models and new green technologies. 'The economic argument for action against climate change has hit home' and many are now realizing that it's not in their best interests to carry on. There is also now a lot of consumer pressure and government legislation that is driving this change. I would say that industry is more adapting to the market, rather than taking the lead in change.

Hebbden Bridge in Yorkshire is now the second town to go plastic bag free. This was organized by some local women organizing themselves. This is the adaptive change and it's fantastic. Local people achieving what their government and powerful business failed to do.

The changes needed to cope global warming should be pulling all of us together. It's something that needs cooperative teamwork.

Then you should blame the press hype that lead the police who over police these events.

There are many things on which taxes are spent and like policing football matches policing protests should be accepted as part and parcel of the cost of democracy.

Jesus wept Moon ... is one of the first things to being environmentally gung ho the tendency to blame everyone but yourself for things? Face it boyo, the protests were a useless and costly exercise and partaken in purely for the self righteous egotism of the protesters.

Mim without protests such then Environmental issues would have taken a lot longer to get onto the political agenda. For years politicians ignored the advice of Scientists and Experts because they didn't want to upset business interests.

Now maybe this protest isn't as necessary as it was, because politicians are now starting to appreciate the importance of the issue. Global warming has trickled into the public consciousness and this is in part due to a dedicate bunch of activists and scientist who dared to challenge the status quo. Still they are moving too slowly so this keeps the environmental issues high on the agendas.

There probably are some with annoyingly self righteous egos, but the majority are simply people who know the importance of tackling the large industries and companies that are promoting their lifestyles which the planet cannot sustain.

The potential damage to human life and the natural environment is too high Mim. Wake up to how serious this problem really is and stop whining about those who are trying to make a differeance.

People in China use less carbon per head then people in UK, Europe or USA. We lead the way in creating a high carbon industrialized society and now they are following.

You can't just blame them and expect them to adopt a green lifestyle whilst stubbornly defending people's rights to fly all the time.
