For Civil Liberties
Pubs should start the Ban Early
they have a 100 days or so until it comes in.

This is a Health Issue
and it makes Good Sense.

Today, an elderly lady patient whose son was unable to visit (and unable to take her outside in a wheelchair for her once-a-day 3 puffs at a cigarette) was wheeled outside by a young nursing auxiliary with permission from the then senior nurse-in-charge, to partake of the tiny bit of nicotine. (She has refused patches- and rightly so, as there`s no patch with a small enough dose to equate with her habit!) Another `esteemed colleague`, when she later heard of this, put the fear of God into this young NA, telling her she could face disciplinary action by the hospital trust...
Fucking Jobsworth, I said I`d take the patient next time, and be happy if they suspend me awhile...

100% with you on that Fluffy.

I bet you and my `esteemed colleague` are distantly related...

Fluffy,
Those stats, if they are available, will probably be hidden along with how many jobs have been lost.
Fluffy Sheep Posted - 28/03/2008 : 19:52:05
Anyone got any stats on how many folks have actually given up smoking BECAUSE OF THE NEW LAW, as opposed to the ones who gave up for other reasons and would have attempted to do so without legislation?

I'm now a non smoker (just) of over two years. I'm against the blanket ban being in place because wherever possible I support free choice for the individual. I get more secondhand smoke now with the pockets of die hard smokers being outside in the street and in pub gardens than I ever did before. I don't blame them at all, after all they have so little choice of venue now..
What a well thought out bit of legislation, patio heaters roast the environment, decent pubs are closing at the rate of 27 a week (allegedly), isn't this just more nanny state stuff?
My views and not my employers.
Fluffy Sheep Posted - 27/03/2008 : 23:15:53
So does car travel, and air travel.. but you brought Junkies into this, that`s a different issue.
long time no see Posted - 27/03/2008 : 21:16:51
Smoking is bad for you
also everthing it touches stinks of it.
Fluffy Sheep Posted - 27/03/2008 : 21:09:16
I though this thread was about straight Tobacco smoking, this is a whole different ball-game.
I smoke, I too drive a car because the bus service doesn`t meet my needs for my shift times. My carbon footprint doesn`t include air travel, at least!

Amazing sometimes, it's like a different person coming in the room but then they go back on the outside and in a short time back on the gear and then back into custody. Be a lot cheaper just to give them the drugs on the NHS and let them get bombed out every day till they die.......

Sounds like a cheaper option
