LONDON (Reuters) - British regulators decided on Wednesday to permit in principle the creation of hybrid human-animal embryos for research into illnesses such as Parkinson's, Motor Neurone Disease and Alzheimer's.

I find this surprising given the generally negative attitude toward genetically altered crops. I guess all one can say is Moooo.

What a load of tosh from Moon as usual. Either he hasn't thought it through and is just trying to sound big or he really is as stupid as all that.

Master race was Hitler's viewpoint.
Those American backed days have gone.

Not really Moon, next thing you know designer babies will be the thing and before you know it people like you and me will be aborted before conception.

? They've only just given it the go-ahead LTNS. How big can it be?

I think LT was talking about the breeding of vampire dogs as per thedelboy's previous post

Safeguards can be circumnavigated or just simply ignored. But that isn't the point so much LTNS. More importantly is the fact that we are taking a step on a slope that will lead who knows where. Disease will never be eradicated ....

Safeguads should prevent any bite back.
Daveb Posted - 07/09/2007 : 06:30:10
Nature will bite back!

I know this bit of news sounds like the plot of a horror/sci-fi story. It`s a nightmare for the ethics debaters too, and OK, it COULD be the thin end of several wedges. I admit I`m not really comfortable about it - but I`ll not declare against it, simply because we really don`t know enough about what is being done.
As for finding a cure for Parkinson`s Disease, yes that would be wonderful. A very nasty disease that could be eradicated. I`ve long held the opinion that diseases are a part of our evolutionary process. As fast as we eradicate one type, yet another becomes more prevalent, and not just those that are infectious.
Daveb Posted - 06/09/2007 : 19:26:41
On a serious note, I would suspect there will be a lab somewhere that has already bred all kings of mutations in search of something more sinister.
The stuff of horror stories but who really knows?
Daveb Posted - 06/09/2007 : 18:30:47
Prescott is not thin!

Very much FACT!

Miriam Binder Posted - 06/09/2007 : 18:27:52
Thin end of the wedge ... The stuff nightmares are made of.
long time no see Posted - 06/09/2007 : 18:20:37
This is not a problem it is a Very Early test (later it will be done with human eggs).
It does not concern anyone but
those that are trying to halt that disease with.

Life In The Fast Lane.
Daveb Posted - 06/09/2007 : 18:13:43
This does not seem right at all.
Think of what an abuse of the rules could produce.

We do not need another John Prescott!
Miriam Binder Posted - 06/09/2007 : 04:51:49
I think there comes a time when we have to say "Enough is enough!" Just because we can doesn't always mean we should. I think it was the wrong decision!
nightowl Posted - 06/09/2007 : 01:18:12
Be interesting to see if this does what it says on the tin, produce cures or treatments for the most horrible diseases we have on this planet.
But can't help feeling the pressure to get a treatment or drug on the market fast to earn income may override sensible safe guards.

Time will tell........
