Zimbabwe live via ITV News
is a risk.
But they showed the problems.

The UK can in no way go into that nation
because due to the History of the British Empire days.

ITV is free on the Internet as well
for UK customers.

Sanctions will not help the people
more will die.

I personally prefer the Karl Marx quote: 'Religion is the impotence of the human mind to deal with occurrences it cannot understand.'
BLONDIE Posted - 04/07/2008 : 14:09:43
Religion is the opium of the masses !

A quote referred to in your link Tombstone
quote:
Mugabe is a hero. He liberated his people from white protestant serfdom. He fought the liberals and heretics who tried to destroy Zimbabwe. He outlawed sodomy. And he is still fighting against US imperialism and the traitors who seek to destroy the country from within … At the same time he is a devout and pious Catholic. Mugabe is truly a chivalric knight of our age … There is no injustice in what President Mugabe is doing. He is enforcing godly leadership on his people, just like King David did in Israel. Authoritarianism is of God.

Wow ... beating people into submission, raping for votes and torturing for reeducation is enforcing Godly Leadership!

It being unimaginable horror. It is none of our business. Is this relative culturalism? They are relatively far removed.

Zimbabwe? I think what is happening from Darfur to Cape Town is pretty relevant. Separating Zimbabwe from what has happened in the continent would be a mistake.

I'll take a punt (shoot the messenger in advance if you wish) that South Africa will be Zimbabwe times ten in 15 to 20 years time. If not before.

One of the main failures and successes of the human race.

Power and greed are the main motivators behind Global Capitalism

History is a big book that nobody learns from.
Power and greed make you blind and deaf.

Oh I know that, which is why I was rather surprised with you going on about my essential stand and the accompanying waffle. So, shall we try again?

What exactly do you mean by that?

Your essential stand, it seems to me, is that it is unfair to make important generalisations about GROUPS of people and one shouldn't have any less expectation of of that group.

I think that is naive in practise.

My essential stand(?) is something I do not recognise from your description of it. Care to elaborate?

Don't you just love the cut and thrust of adult debate

Nope but it sure is not those nurture only theorys you essentially support.

Nope. Occam's Razor usually applies.
Miriam Binder Posted - 01/07/2008 : 05:14:21
If only it was that simple NL. I think that there is a lot more to the plight of Sub Saharan Africans then a simple direct link between PC - a very unsuccessful attempt at reconstructing reality by restricting linguistic means of expression - and disaster.

I would say that on the whole if you want to boil it down to just one or two terms it is far more the case that it will show a direct link between greed and global capitalism.

More arguments and wool gathering but the sad fact is that no-one will condemn Mugabe outright. When you punch up the article below, take time to read the comments on the side of the item.

BLONDIE Posted - 29/06/2008 : 14:41:43
It should be remembered that of the fifty odd African countries that make up the Union, the greater majority are dictatorships, and whilst they have not dragged their respective countries to the level of Zimbabwe, their Human Rights programmes leave a great deal to be desired, and there are very few, if any, who can point a 'CLEAN FINGER' at Mugabe. The once 'breadbasket' of Africa is now a basket case.

Daveb Posted - 29/06/2008 : 14:00:46
There are calls for the UN to enter Zimbabwe to restore peace.
There is no war.

Parallels with other countries such as China and Iraq make it difficult to see why the UN should enter.

Just another dictatorship but for yet another Afican country with so much potenetial it is very sad.

Zimbabwe could have so much, the land is fertile and in these times of food shortages it could be much better used.
Natural resources include coal, chromium ore, asbestos, gold, nickel, copper, iron ore, vanadium, lithium, tin, platinum group metals - All heading for China?

thedelboy Posted - 29/06/2008 : 09:44:59
I suppose "SKy NEWS" just reports false news then ? this morning on bbc news it has been said there will be further sanctions !thaty wont hurt Mugabe but they will hurt the people of Zimbabwe
BLONDIE Posted - 29/06/2008 : 00:02:14
What a lot of utter bo***cks. The African nations will now revert to argument over what to do next and eventually the whole thing will fizzle out. They are all sitting pretty in their respective countries, and nothing will happen. Forget the useless Mbeki. Mugabe and his henchmen are far too entrenched and realise that to give up power now they will end up in the Court of Human Rights. It is far too late to do anything now. Steps should have been taken YEARS ago. So it will drag on until Mugabe dies - which, heaven forbid, could be years, - and then one of his henchmen will take his place and the whole sorry story will begin all over again.
