As some posters seem well connected into planning matters, I wonder if they could shed some light on where we are up to with the following?

- The Ice rink at Black Rock. Southern Water seem to be finishing their construction but another site has sprung up a few meters to the east. Is this the new ice rink? I thought I'd read that the developers hadn't come up with adequate plans as far as the council were concerned?

- The Marina. Is that tall tower going ahead?

- i360. If I remember, they were given the go-ahead and work had started. Several months on and I see no evidence. I have a theory that the people behind this have had their bluff called by Brighton & Hove who have said 'ok - build it' and now they've been caught out.

- King Alfred. Karis threatened to bankrupt the council, its all gone quiet. Where are we up to with this?

Some things seem to rumble on for an eternity....

Black rock plans - developers given an extension to prepare their planning application, the other 2 major developments at the marina have affected the progress of this project, planning is expected to be submitted in the next couple of months, the scheme is still very much alive.

The 40 storey marina tower - is going ahead, their site offices/portacabins are currently occupying the black rock site, they have started on the construction of the platform which will support the tower and other buildings.

I360 - within the next couple of weeks work will begin with the dismantling of the rootend and removal of artefacts to secure remote storage, according to the west pier trust website.

King Alfred - construction starting on site next year.

Well Done RSWB,
Martha wants it all faster.

Ice rink..........approx.4 deadlines passed to submit plans.Waffle-ing on about how the rink shoud be in keeping
with the design of the marina towers, would have hought it would be vice versa as the rink was b4 the towers.
Still going by Brighton International Arenas inability to even organise a launch party,some-one forgot about an entertainment liscence,do not hold your breath waiting for a rink.
Still an ice rink is an ice rink if only to swell Robin Cousins bank balance.
Coutts Bywater scheme for a rink was more impressive.

By the way at the last get your skates on event at the centre, the centre had to get their own machinery to make the ice
as Cousins did not want public skating on 'his'ice.

Brighton is prime waterfront property.
Global warming says we are all going to drown soon.
Why invest?

Exactly - why do they just not get kicked out at the first hurdle rather than an unacceptable application given momentum by hanging around the planning process. In the end, by their constant place in the public eye, unacceptable ideas almost become acceptable by default eg King Alfred

They cannot get the finance for Black Rock. Who'd invest in it?

And you cannot simply ring up somebody, as you would a plumber or taxi, if you need all those holes bored in the seabed for a tower at the Marina.

Similar problems with King Alfred.

Why do Applications go in for these fantasies? What's more, why are they taken seriously when they get there?

They almost make a Greggs pasty seem digestible by comparison.

Marina - the reality puts paid to the pipe-dream
King Alfred - Karis skint

Style over substance again - how very Brighton & Hove!

Martha the Water contracts run until 2009.
So nothing in that place is Finished, only one small sector so far.

As for the i360
not starting on time,
nothing new in that at all.

Boom And Bust Under Stinking New Labour.

Transport impossible to work out for the Black Rock site.

The physical building of the Marina tower far more expensive than anticipated. Unlikely to happen.
