Given this political football has been kicked around for years now,
why doesn't someone grab the issue by the scruff of its neck and sort it
out once and for all?

It can't be that hard can it?

The party or department that finally renovates it could count it as a feather in their cap. Is the renovation linked into the West Pier stuff?

To reopen by summer ... I thought they were leaving it a bit late seeing as the first day of summer has just been and gone and then I read the article ... Next summer. Good job I decided not to hold my breath!
Furzewick Posted - 22/06/2008 : 14:50:12
And now a 2nd version of the article

I am not holding my breath! It would be great if something was done to it ... How long have they been promising this now?

No problem at all, you are not the first to believe that the bandstand is in Hove, eg

the real Hove Banstand can be seen here

It's east of Embassy Court, which is in Brighton.

That dreadful Meeting Place cafe is on the border, just in Brighton.

I just wish that certain news groups, eg BBC and even the Argust would stop talking about the now long demolished Hove bandstand and talk about the Brighton Bandstand. Thats probably why no work is being done on it, the workmen/women are looking for the one in Hove

hmmmmm?

It's West of Embassy Ct which makes it Hove doesn't it?

I thought the border ran down Western St?

Like I posted on the Starbucks thread, if the applicant had put in a request to include lap dancing, this would have been fully restored & open by now.

The difference is that if someone applies for a licence to open a lap dancing club, all the council have to do is approve it.

They don't have to build the club and employ the dancers . . .

If/when the Bandstand is restored, the opening performance should begin with the Sousa march used by Monty Python. A fit tribute to the workings of Brighton and Hove Council.

A suitable councillor could even be chosen to crawl across the pebbles and Lawns to croak, "it's..."

The development sounds good based on some decent principles which begs the question - why isn't the restoration happening now? Work was supposed to have started by now. Why is it still in grips of the planning beaurucratic-maze?

Page 11 of Todays Argus
has a letter by Councillor Theobold.
Work will start right after the Structural Engineers
are appointed by the End of this month
and he has confirmed, as they promised,
actual building work starts next spring
and finishing in 2009.

Isn't the work on the Bandstand now being arranged?

It will be cheap at the price as there is so much publicity to be got from it.

There is a rumour that the Council has spent a fortune on a logo for the Pavilion. As if a logo is necessary. What a waste of money.
Daveb Posted - 18/09/2007 : 22:30:25
Local gay community want a memorial to Aids.

Why not let them have this to spend their money on.

At least it will get maintained.

Which begs the question, if the crumbling bandstand is, if you like, a legacy of the Labour administration, when then has the new administration not seen fit to push its renovation up the agenda?

Not that I'm all that bothered about the bandstand (there are more pressing needs) but as its become almost symbolic of the town, you'd have thought the Tories would be keen to get the issue resolved?

It's renovation would certainly stand Brighton in much better stead then all those fanciful applications that keep being brought to the table, raise up a storm and end up dying the death of (no) funding
