Posted - 30/07/2007 : 21:17:27 Tonight, my friend/colleague and I, who buy by the bottle not the glass, went into the 3 Jolly Butchers in North Road Brighton. There were very few of us in there at the time, it was about 6 p.m. The background music became obtrusive. My friend politely asked, as we were attempting to talk about business, if the music could be put down a little bit, so we could hear each other, and we would only be in that pub a while longer. This was initally comlpied with. However, after about 5 minutes ,the music was put back up, at twice the volume. At which, we left our bottle of wine half finished and walked out, and went to the Royal Standard in Queens Road (a nice basic friendly pub BTW). Considering the number of people in the 3JB (4 including us) should they not at least have made us feel comfortable until we left (we have used this pub many times before). Please be aware of the unhelpful/piss-taking attitude of the staff in this pub who in our opinion are dickheads. |

Posted - 18/10/2007 : 09:59:32 I'm missing it too but my new local has 12 real ales on and they start at £2.40 a pint! Went to another pub and they make their own beer which starts £2.00 a pint. So it can't be too bad!

No, it is bland, cold, and very loud. Dull beer - not pump.
The place touts its "organic" credentials but it is essentially a pollutant. Really horrible.
Yep goto the basket makers or the waggon and horses instead. |

Posted - 17/10/2007 : 13:07:27 I'm with you on the earth and stars. We were in there on a Sunday night where they had a line up of performers. One guy, for at least 20mins, did human beat box badly and the PA kept getting howl around. FFS! |

I have told so many people to avoid the Earth and Stars. Perhaps the worst pub in Brighton.
Is is a "knit your own yoghurt" type of pub? |

Those Pubs/Clubs are looking for those Young Crowds who (so they claim) Spend money more with Loud Music on.
Giving Feedback is Important many Pubs/Clubs have a note you can fill in. That helps re-direction. |

Posted - 16/10/2007 : 13:59:21 When living in Brighton I used to find the noisy music in many Brighton pubs really annoying. Surley people go to pubs to socialize and talk.
If you want loud music there are plenty of bar type places.
I was once in the Earth and Stars having a quiet drink with some friends. As soon as I had sat down with my lethal organic cider some annoying DJ started up playing music at such a volume I had to shout to the person opposite.
I asked him to turn the volume down and he simply refused. It was utterley crazy as we were the only people in there at the time so we just left. |

Bring back the cheese roll (non-Greggs). |

Posted - 31/07/2007 : 19:30:43 Hello Pelagia - I used to go that pub a lot using it as a second office ! - I am sure the managers ( who I got to know well) would be horrified to hear about this- they have always been very careful about their customers....of course, this assumes that it wasnt one of the managers/owners themselves ( unlikely i would say) |

Posted - 30/07/2007 : 21:47:38 Thanks Mim, I think I will post a rating. That pub really takes the piss, and I hope anyone who has anything to do with this particular establishment is reading this. But I think I had better calm down first! The present Mr P is warning me against posting in my present frame of mind. (Just drafted a posting to the dreadful Mirror forum telling them that they are a bunch of retards, amongst other things, when the comoputer crashed and I lost my posting). He said I was obvously not meant to post such abuse! |

Does sound a bit much. However, you could have least asked for a couple of straws and taken the bottle with you.
Yes, save that professional ethics do not permit us to sit on a street corner drinking out of a bottle and discuss client's affairs. But thanks for the suggestion DaveB!!! |
