You would have thought. In this case I am not sure I agree. This is, to my mind, yet another kick in the teeth for the Menezes family.quote:

When this whole Menezes thing hit the headlines we were still on the old Argus forums. We received a blow by blow account of newsflashes and FACTS. Jean Charles de Menezes was judged guilty purely because he was 'chased' ... which later on was amended to followed and pursuit was not engaged till he ran for his train. The real point to all this being that certain posters, who shall remain nameless but will recognise themselves, were all gung ho, tally ho and with the scent of blood lust in their noses, could see no wrong.
It's just funny to see the effects of voluntary amnesia .... |

I remember the thread on the now defunct old Argus Forums where a certain poster was 100% behind this shooting of an innocent man. Even failing to read anything untoward in the discharging of 7+ bullets at close range into one individual. (though admittedly at the time we were only aware of 5 bullets) |

What will it take for Sir Ian Blair to take the blame and step down, despite denials of a shoot to kill policy and the obstruction of the enquiry when it started he is still there.
What ever happened to democracy and public accountability ! |

And now it is calling for a public debate into the policy of shooting suspected suicide bombers on sight.
Well, I would welcome any public debate on the policy of shooting on sight. Whether we can in effect specify that this is only in relation to 'suspected suicide bombers' will lead us no further forward because as this de Menezes case has only to clearly demonstrated, a suspicion is something that is hard to quantify in any concrete manner. |

All this sad saga should never have happened, the driving down of professionalism, training and man power over the years to save money just makes horror stories like this more likely in the future.
The police deny there was a shoot to kill policy just as they did in northern Ireland and then to lie deceive and smear the innocent victim is something we do not expect from the Met at any time.
Sir Ian has no Honour or morals, to cling on to his job as Commissioner of the most abysmal operational failure the police have had is obscene and treats the general public with complete contempt.
Sir Ian has to go.......

And I hope he takes it on the chin and walks!
Menezes is never going to get any justice. But I want to see the back of Sir Ian largely because of the way the Met handled this whole horrendous fiasco not so much before the shooting but after. They lied, they started a 'smear campaign' on the poor victim and compounded injury by insult in numerous other ways.
Horrendously unfortunate as the whole sorry saga is I for one would have backed the police to the hilt had they but had the decency to admit that they over-reacted - which, considering this was but shortly after a failed but large scale suicide attack would have been rather unprofessional but, in human terms I suppose, understandable.
What happened to Menezes was nothing short of executionary style murder. What happened after was nothing short of a most blatantly duplicitous attempt to manipulate public opinion to cover his own backside. And for that, I want to see that particular backside waddling out the door never to return! |

This was a serial failure of organisation, training, tactics and resourcing which endangered the public and killed an Innocent man, do the right thing and resign Sir Ian Blair...... |
