Posted - 08/02/2008 : 23:59:25 I did not say it was like the Egyptian rubbish. But we DO have kids here (and adults) who root around in what other folks throw out. A few years ago, a close friend of mine went as an aid worker to Albania. She got ill there and was hospitalised for a time, so she knew exactly what the hospital food was like. She also knew that desperate people there went through the hospital waste looking for any discarded food during that period.
EVERY country has some folks who, whether from necessity or opportunism, will sift through whatever trash there is to rummage in. |

Posted - 08/02/2008 : 23:24:36 Every country has its share of places where folks don`t like the smell and those who can afford it move out. Here it`s landfill sites, and civic amenity skip sites - the difference is ours usually have a fence around them. The skip sites have their share of kids - and adults who go there with a bag of newspapers or plastic bottles or cans...and try to have a good old rummage to see what they can find and carry off. The men who work at our local skip site call them `wombles`... |
