Posted - 15/02/2008 : 10:48:46 If these binmen are overweight and lazy, then "wildcat" strike is hardly the right expression. Wildcats leap about the place but it sounds as if these binmen are sitting it out. |

Posted - 15/02/2008 : 10:05:19 Proposed plan one either side at top of road one either side at bottom of road,I personally know that most of my neighbours have objected to this;the only people who seem happy about it are the business people(they would not object as they have to have special collections so if there are communal bins they can just put thier crap in them and pay less for thier official removal |

Posted - 15/02/2008 : 08:30:45 Good grief, where are they going to put them ... in front of one of the B&Bs? It is hard enough trying to find a parking space along there at the best of times. Whenever I come to pick you up, I find I have to double park more often then not. |

Posted - 15/02/2008 : 05:43:05 I wonder could management be trying to get the binmen to strike so they can sack them? Its Funny that it was only last week we got a letter from the council asking what our Ideas were on them introducing communal bins in Upper rock gardens(ULTERIOR MOTIVE OR WHAT?) |

It is not easy, even when you are fit. It is nasty, smelly job and you never really know what you may come in contact with.
What is it with you and Polish workers anyway? |

Case Closed.
Why is the case closed LTNS? Because you are not managing to bully everyone into ignoring a thread or turning it into another Greggs bashing event.
Fact is that the job they do is far from pleasant, fact is that the job they do requires a lot of physical effort. Fact is that if they do not have the tools for the job then they will have to work even harder. Fact is that it is clear that the council are counting on people getting hot under the collar because their bins aren't collected and they are hoping that they won't ask the questions that need asking.
I don't think the bin men are 'milking' anything and I certainly do not think that they are 'holding us to ransom. This council has a deplorable reputation, deservedly, for the way they have treated both the bin men and women of this city and the refuse collection as a whole.
So it is a wild cat strike. The way things are going, it looks like it is going to be a litter of wild cat strikes. So be it ... I for one want a once and for all resolution to this refuse mess the council manage to get us into every time. And yes, I do blame the council! |

Look Miriam that is to TB.
Lets have some Balance on this thread. When Rubbish ain't collected and they are Not on a Real Strike Folks get angry.
Let us have balance by all means LTNS. Firstly, they are not all fat and lazy and one boss allegedly told one bin man that he was. You topic title is therefore misleading. Secondly, the strike is not about being called fat or lazy but about there not being enough trucks to do the rounds and not enough cover for the trucks that are available. Lack of staff and lack of tools to do the job that is what the strike is about!
Whether they are right or not, I don't know, not having been to the depot to count the number of trucks or the number of crews available to work the trucks. What I do know is that if there are insufficient trucks and if there is not enough cover ... I would sooner they strike now then in the middle of the summer.
And come back and talk to me about balance when you manage to keep some in your posts please LTNS. |

And why bother reproducing such a vile and unthinking comment? Do you agree with it? If you do, why not state so rather then hide behind the words of another. If you don't then the reproduction is pointless! |

http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/generalnews/display.var.2040891.0.binman_strike_may_continue_for_days_says_worker.php
From the comments:
'the reporting on this strike has been poor to say the least they have taken a minor issue that to be honest cant see a problem with, which should be reported properly in thursdays paper, the main reason of the strike is that there is not enough staff, trucks there is no faith in managment the service is being slowly crushed and as for allan macarthy he more than likely is right a lorry has broken down the point is they got rid of the spare lorries and will not hire a replacement in to cover it so the crew goes on another round and you get missed that day then the crew has double work the next day trying to catch up thats if they get the truck back the next day there are 4 managers in the yard all on about 35 grand which i would not even trust them with a litter pickers barrow you may think were moaning thats up to you but until you have spent a month on the bins and see how it stumbles from one day to the next to get a better picture' |
