I've never really relied on anything to ease heartburn. I've never suffered from it in any real terms and when I do get it occasionally, I just put up with it but I know people that practically live on the stuff ... okay, maybe not live on it but it does tend to be the norm to have a dose after every meal. Therefore this is somewhat owrrying:

Reckitt Benckiser have been accused of 'evergreening'. Now what is that you may well ask. I know I did ... This article will explain.

Denise, that`s good advice.
I`d also suggest, if folks do suffer from `heartburn`, indigestion, to try to keep a log of what, if anything, sparks it off. If there are contributary causes, you can work on eliminating them...if there isn`t a pattern, then you should get it investigated, don`t just keep taking the antacids.

Water, Miriam - lots of water will cure most reflux.

I have to take the anti-reflux Zoton daily, as I was prone to acid reflux, but have to be able to tell the difference between angina (or worse) and heartburn.

Health tip: if you're over 40 keep an anti-acid (preferably the fast acting liquid types) in your medicine chest, and always take it when you have heartburn.

If the heartburn doesn't subside you could well have a heart problem.

Had my brother known that he would be alive today. As it was, he didn't, and what he presumed to be heartburn was in fact a mild heart-attack. He went to bed to sleep it off and died during the night - even a mild or minor attack can be fatal if it is allowed to continue for long enough.

So get that anti-acid into your medicine chest tomorrow!

If any drugs company produces a product that can be bought off the shelf in a supermarket and without a doctor's prescription, you can rest assured that it is a marketing ploy! It will make huge claims about its benefits, and about how many peoples' lives have been improved. However you never hear about the thousands for whom it has never benefitted, but who will buy any number of concoctions to find the right one. How many different cough or cold mixtures are out there? Many of us will find the one that works for us but basically they contain the same ingredients, but with different levels. You will not find many whose main active ingredient is not paracetomol - buy some paracetomol, and some lemons, and you've got your own mixture for a fraction of the cost!
