Posted - 18/03/2008 : 10:23:13 I wish Doctors would stick to making people better whatever lifestyle people to choose to live rather than acting as our moral guardians. It’s not just drink, but smoking diet and eating habits that get called into question. Also many doctors feel they can moralize about people’s sexual practices when it comes to abortion or make ethical decision about what is ‘right’ for the patient.

Posted - 16/03/2008 : 07:27:18 Binge drinking is a social and cultural phenomenon. It will not be tackled by raising the duty on alcohol. But then our government is not really interested in addressing the issue of binge drinking. |

Posted - 16/03/2008 : 07:18:29 Exactly. Cut the duty on alcohol so that sensible people are not hit with the same stick. Fine those who over do it in public. That may deter binge drinking.
Trouble is, if it works then the government would not raise enough tax. 5p on a pint is not going to stop anything but there again nothing will. Shiria law maybe?
It is summary justice but we have that in many areas already. |
