Here is a piece about Tesco being alarmed by the Competition Commission's deliberations.

Tesco's half-year profits have increased by 10% although the next lot will need a footnote to explain that they are down a percentage of £66,000.

More excitement here than in most of Tesco's products.

It sounds as if the robbers made off with more than it cost to build that dreadful Tesco building.

Post script to the 'orange saga'.

As I said earlier, it's Tesco AND ASDA that are making these big publicity claims regarding their "price reductions" on a thousand items. Earlier I mentioned the 68p 'value' oranges that earned the 'discounted' label in spite of a REDUCTION in the no of oranges and the slight price increase.

Mrs Anubis and I almost always go to ASDA (at the Marina) on a Saturday morning. I was interested to look at THEIR 'smart price' oranges, because they were packed similarly nd priced EXACTLY the same as the Tesco [probably come from the same supplier}. I can report that in the case of ASDA, the number of oranges remains at eight -- but the price is now reduced to 40p.

Obviously one item is just one item. But if you like the cheap and juicy 'cheapos' in oranges, then it's ASDA you should patronize!

How can eight or even six oranges be one of a thousand items?
Back to SKool!
Infinite Poppadum Posted - 19/09/2008 : 10:27:00
They put up the price of other things when "discounting" some.
Anubis Posted - 19/09/2008 : 08:50:37
Mrs Anubis and I generally visit this store weekly -- generally she does the food selection although I usually add my 'oranges' (I routinely have a couple for breakfast). For months now I've been buying the Tesco "value" packs, a bit pithy but VERY juicy, For several weeks now, there are eight oranges and the price 68p. Yesterday we shopped there and I found my usual "value" pack -- BUT it was now six oranges for 69p. 25% less fruit, an extra penny .... BUT THERE WAS SOMETHING ELSE ATTACHED TO THE PACK (in addition to the "value" tag). A long orange/brown strip labelled "discounted".

Maybe you've heard that Tesco and Asda are fighting the price rises by offering "special discounts" on a thousand items? I guess my oranges are one of those thousand!?

How many food shops can Church Road, Hove take?

Mrs Poppadum remarks that Cottingham's has closed down. What will take its place?

Perhaps the one run by the Greens in Blatchington Road as part of the election campaign in Central ward has taken away customers?

Tesco now refuses to allow unions.

On a serious note, this twat needs locking up for a very long time or deporting depending on roots.
If this "liquid" is what they say the infections it could have given to people could kill. Charge him as a terrorist!

What inside information does LTNS have to show that Tesco has flinched at discovering that some in Sussex are taking a stand against the Thailand outrage?

Perhaps a certain chain of bakers is in need of a fresh team of testers?

Yep Tesco's are also suing the Grauniad at the moment for their story about how they have been using off shore accounts to doge UK tax.

Tesco's are scum, plain and simple.

I am Sure Lidl and Walmart are happy about your choice.

It is very regrettable that we have had to take legal action in Thailand.
"We had hoped that the individuals concerned would apologise for the false and highly damaging allegations they had made about our business over a sustained period of time but despite numerous attempts to get them to set the record straight, this has not happened."

Here is a piece about the way stores are coping with rising price of ingredients and the effect on suppliers. Tesco chief says that he hangs around in stores (Church Road?) and now hears people on cellphones discussing the price of items with others.
