I liked the advice at the bottom to pick up any children (use them as a decoy while you escape)

PS--can we have an international news forum as well? It'll keep LTNS from moaning that this isn't national news.......

Posted - 20/04/2008 : 10:32:12 We had one here a couple of years ago - I was teaching in a computer lab on the second floor when all the monitors started rocking backwards and forwards. The girls were pretty startled. That evening we turned on the news and saw that the city of Bam in Iran had been flattened. |

Posted - 20/04/2008 : 08:15:37 The first decent earth tremor I was ever in was in Beer Sheva (Israel) ... I was actually occupying the 'throne room' at the time and ended up, along with the 'throne', in the hallway. |

Is this a safety procedure, a bit like "in case of earthquake grasp firmly onto your TV set..."

Actually this is a bit retro..I immediately went to the internet to find out what was going on. "In case of earthquake..log on". We are definitely newbees when it comes to earth tremors here in the midwestern USA... Tornados and floods? "So what, whats new" ... but a good ground rumble and we are hiding under the bed. |

Posted - 18/04/2008 : 23:49:32 This cat had come quite a way to meet its end in that Chicago alley...a bit sad really after it had made it so far without being run over by a vehicle, or "done in" in some other way. But this is not a Disney story and it could have ended much worse. Ah well…
Perhaps it did anger the Gods however…
Earthquake reported in Illinois
WEST SALEM, Ill. -- Bricks shook loose and fell from buildings. Walls cracked. Books tumbled off shelves. A 5.2-magnitude earthquake centered near this southern Illinois town struck before dawn Friday, shaking things up from Nebraska to Atlanta but doing little damage and seriously hurting no one. It was the kind of temblor that might be ignored in earthquake-savvy California. But the quake rattled nerves across the Midwest as it rocked skyscrapers in Chicago, 230 miles north of here, and sent people scrambling for their TV sets in Milwaukee, Cincinnati and Louisville, Ky., where bricks toppled to the pavement. http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/902398,quake041808.article |
