Posted - 20/04/2008 : 13:09:15 With the end of Classical Longplayer in Duke Street there is no longer a shop for classical CDs in Brighton.
This will hasten the growth of online shopping, which means that fewer and fewer places in England have a true local economy. |

Posted - 29/04/2008 : 10:23:48 Nice to read about that specialist shop near Brighton Station. How long will that last after the current owner passes away ?
Who remembers the famous record shop in Sydney Street of late 70s/early 80s era ? |

Posted - 29/04/2008 : 09:48:38 The Argus has now woken up to the fate of record shops. Rather interesting.

Posted - 22/04/2008 : 07:03:29 Starbucks has got into selling music/CDs. There is scope for Greggs to raise its cultural profile. |

Posted - 21/04/2008 : 21:05:01 Lawks luv a duck! I used to go there when my eldest was but a wee nipper. Good ol' Spot, a family comforter, came from there. By now dilapidated, much repaired and well loved by two generations of Binder offspring and seen us through all sniffs and colds, fevers, spotty chickenpox, teething, the screaming ab-jabs, heartbreaks and shattered dreams, I-hate-yous and I-wish-I-had-never-been-borns, tummy upsets, scary moments and all the other tragedies large and small ... heard more secrets, and kept them! Now getting ready for the next instalment of Binders.
The thought that the place where we first met will be no more is sad. |

Isn't there still a shop in George Street Hove ?
Yes, it’s a veritable golden treasure chest of rare recordings, run by the bustling, but nevertheless obliging, Julian and his friend.

Borders also sell Classical CD's.
Life In The City.
Last time I went in there and asked for a CD of Gohar Gasparian ... I got blank stares instead of a CD. |

Posted - 20/04/2008 : 20:29:30 Stockhausen would have had one more customer for his most way-out avant-garde piece if he had called it "The Greggs Suite"... |

Posted - 20/04/2008 : 20:11:20 He probably would be hard pushed to tell the difference between various conductors and certainly would reckon that one production of La Traviata is much the same as the next. One can but wonder whether he has ever heard Gohar Gasparian sing or whether he has ever heard Meyerbeer's 'Dinorah'. |

Posted - 20/04/2008 : 19:46:49 I don't think LTNS can fully enter the vast array of quality Classical. Mozart is Mozart and he may have heard of Bach and Vivaldi but that is just about where it stops I reckon. |

Those Stores both have a classical area so you can still buy in Brighton.
If you require The Four Seasons, chanting monks and Mozrt highlights. |

Of course HMV or Virginrebrand stores sell classical CD's.
So your title is Wrong.
It should be No more Specialist Shop.

For classical discs, those stores are not worth bothering with.
There could be a good classical store. The record shops in Gardner Street and Kensington Gardens show that specialist stores do well if they have the stock with knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff. |

Posted - 20/04/2008 : 13:29:14 The title is fine ... The sort of classical music you get in those music supermarkets is just the run of the mill stuff. If you want anything decent it looks as if you are going to be forced online now. Disgusting and outrageous! |
