Yep, the comments section of the Argus are truly dire. it seems every homophobe/racist in sussex uses it.
I do enjoy the comments when someone chav kills themselves in a stolen car or something, always along the lines of:
u was da best. u will be missed m8 |

What the argus wants is views on their Dramatic Storys
as well, which shows the site to be alive more.

That "Have Your Say" (that awful patronising phrase which is everywhere) leads to the Argus forums as usual, and nothing much is going on over there, except for posts about Hove Lagoon. As dull as ditchwater, one might say. |

Well, I`m amazed that the Argus Forum is still going (ah, but where? - to the dogs, Oh those poor dogs!) and even more amazed that folks are still discussing it. As far as I knew, it was/is, History.
Your Local Paper is a different matter, but don`t trash it too severely. Give it constructive criticism, interact with it when you feel interested, outraged or moved...and enjoy the gaffes and the misprints, they are part of the character of any `local` rag. The localness of most local papers is gradually being eroded by nationally franchised or networked content, rather like the sad demise of real `local` radio.
One day we`ll all end up reading (or just lighting the fire or not buying it anymore) the same bloody rubbish as the awful national tabloids, which have no character or merit whatsoever!

If, as today's Telegraph reports, AM/FM radio will soon be turned off in favour of digital, then printed newspapers must have even less time left.
Is the Argus geared up to this? There is not much sign of it. |

In her column in yesterday's Argus Jean Calder said that she is annoyed at peopel who, as a point of honour, say that they "do not read the Argus" - whatever might be in it. But if it had morewriting as good as her, then it would have more readers. |
