Of course no Forum is complete without a little musing over the fate of this seafront site...

Perhaps it is compensation for closing the market(designed and built by "Karis" presumably
Control Panel Posted - 16/05/2008 : 10:04:57
Yes, this phrase "working in partnership" covers an enormous about of dodgy dealings. So does "preferred bidder".
thedelboy Posted - 16/05/2008 : 09:59:39
Strange there are a lot of vans with "Mears working in partnership with brighton hove city council" wonder who is in charge of the council now?? conflict of interests??
Furzewick Posted - 16/05/2008 : 09:55:05
My suspicion is that it goes right to the top. Look at the person whose duties included steering the King Alfred project before his current job !
B.O.B. Posted - 16/05/2008 : 05:44:43
I wonder who is in charge at planning now. They got rid of those who would ask questions at the KA decision fiasco. Someone must know who's getting these backhanders if this is true. Does it go right to the top?

Is this the sort of building more likely to sell at such a time? Especially if there turns out no longer to be the prospect of residents looking out their windows and seeing the King Alfred towers looming?

Was permission given with the tacit understanding all round that the king Alfred will not in fact go ahead?

Given the well publicised underhand tactics employed by Karis with the King Alfred, it really beggars belief that any further applications by them are even considered by Brighton & Hove. In fact, it is outrageous that Brighton & Hove tax payers money is spent on processing this companies applications when, evetually, they will pocket considerable profits.

Its nice to see that good old fashioned back-handers must be alive and well!

What about the news of some very big New York developments now delayed or not happening ..... credit crunch etc.
Infinite Poppadum Posted - 14/05/2008 : 21:44:34
You don't hear of Americans clamouring to do this in Brighton.

But they'll always have Paris.

No ... I know you are not talking about that place LTNS. But you have done and you lauded it too ... Now look at it. Fact is sweetness, you haven't a clue when it comes to urban development. It isn't just about throwing up some high-rises, no mater how charming the view. And it isn't just about getting small flats for young couples.

Myopia?

Common Sense - Yes.

Really LTNS? Have you had a good look at the New England quarter?
A new community with everything in house? Sure about that are you? Totally self sufficient are they?
Daveb Posted - 03/05/2008 : 19:54:21
I do not wish to be picky but....
They are unlikely to get a council house and locally, schools in council estates are being closed. Shops in areas such as Newhaven are closing and being replaced by tacky market stools.

They may think that this is their only choice, crap that it is!

Crappy world, crap housing is the future. Nothing to do with whoever is in power.
They do not care in their big gated houses with chelsea tractors.

Oh, I am not getting confused LTNS ... I do think however that you are definitely suffering from myopia. So, young couples are going to buy these overpriced wonderful small flats with great views near a mega store. And then what LTNS? Are they going to stay young couples forever? Are they going to have families? Are they going to need schools and parks and places to walk the family dog? Are they going to need a dentist and a doctor and a haberdashery to buy the odd button to replace? Are they going to need somewhere to park the car and discard their rubbish?

LTNS ... do you ever think about who are supposed to buy these Small Flats in "Great Places and up High"? ... and what is up high? on a mountain top or on top of several stories of flats that will not sell so well because they are not up high?
