Latest Homes says that former mayor Carol Theobald spent all day on public display in a bubblebath and also posed, in "an orange, daisy-trimmed bikini flanked by two oiled musclemen in skimpy briefs".

Even if this did nothing for the city's economy, it perhaps raised the "profile" of the place.

Anyone heard talk about Councillors from Goldsmid not attending meetings, by-elections and the like ?

Mary Mears from the London Road Open Market
is the new Council Leader for the Conservatives.

She was on ITV Local TV
and sounds very fair.

I reckon our councils would be better of concentrating on the local residents and local needs rather then trying for all these grandiose schemes that are designed to be nothing more then money pits with a feather in their cap!

Liverpool Council, the worst performing in the country, had a £20 million shortfall on its European City of Culture, met by selling off care homes. It was always baloney that this City of Culture would be an economic "generator".

So many people ignore the chaotic Brighton Festival, anything more would have been unlikely to succeed.

Have you tried a Route 1 bus on a weekend ? - far from without passengers.

Portslade, Newhaven?

As the Phoenix craft has successfully landed on a previously unexplored part of Mars, I think we can reasonably deduce that NASA did not call upon Brighton and Hove City Council for advice.

Well spotted Tarner photo !
On the internet the photo is not shown.

The crafty Tories have put a photograph of mosaics at Tarner Park in City News with various people in front.

It does not point out that some of these are in fact Green councillors but leaves readers to think they are part of the unemployed...

From the council website :

You are here - home : your council : councillors & democracy : getting involved

There are a number of ways that members of the public can get involved in local government. These include:

* vote at local elections if you are registered;
* contact your local Councillor about any matters of concern to you;
* inspect a copy of the constitution and obtain a copy (NB there will be a fee payable for a paper copy of the constitution to cover printing costs, but you can also view the Constitution online.)
* attend meetings of the Council, the Cabinet, Individual Cabinet Member Meetings and Council Committees except where confidential matters (for example personal, financial or commercial information) are being discussed;
* participate in the Council’s question time and contribute to investigations by the Overview and Scrutiny Committees in accordance with the Council’s procedures;
* see non-confidential reports and background papers, and a record of key decisions made by the Council, the Executive and the Committees;
* complain to the Council about failure in services or maladministration;
* complain to the Ombudsman if you think the Council has not followed its procedures properly. However, you should only do this after using the Council’s own complaints process;
* complain to the Standards Committee if you believe that a Councillor has not followed the Council’s Code of Conduct;
* inspect the Council’s accounts and make your views known to the external auditor.

Somethings are going to follow you no matter how far you run and I reckon doggie dos are going to be Theobald's Waterloo!
Infinite Poppadum Posted - 05/05/2008 : 07:58:56
He has gone quiet on the dogs!

Perhaps he is burying the bone of contention?

Theobald as Cabinet member for the environment? Doggie dos!
Infinite Poppadum Posted - 05/05/2008 : 07:37:34
What on earth are "central services" and "community affairs"? Sound very woolly, meaningless posts.
Furzewick Posted - 04/05/2008 : 22:43:51

"London is just the first premiere, not a world premiere"
Infinite Poppadum Posted - 27/04/2008 : 09:16:02
The movie of Sex and the City is not having its world premiere in Brighton.

To listen to the Council and Fanshawe, you'd think the producers would be clamouring to do so, that the councillors would be clattering along a red carpet in Jimmy Choo shoes at the Odeon.

Alarmed at the continuing disputes between the Brighton and the Hove sections of the Conservative councillors, the new Leader, Mary Mears, is planning a weekend's "bonding exercise" away from the city. This will involve such things as cliff climbing and spending time in a small, dimly-lit submersible craft.

The unspoken assumption among opposition Councillors is that any fatalities could bring about a useful by-election.

Are the Conservatives themselves paying for this?

Why not, in the US the government runs oil companies.
FUBAR Posted - 18/04/2008 : 12:31:50
On second thoughts maybe each party should have a local shop. At least it would keep the politicians busy doing something useful, and after every election the losers would have a job to go to.......

How is opening a shop going to help? If Labour opened a tax refund shop I still wouldn't vote for them same with the greens. It's policies and actions not shopping for cheap veggies that matters.....
Miriam Binder Posted - 18/04/2008 : 11:55:26
How much is this costing the electorate?
