Posted - 07/01/2008 : 16:57:32 Is it reasonable to ask LTNS that with his non-compromising stance on what he refers to as "Dirty Stinking Rotten Smokers" whether he would give up driving his car?
When we take into consideration that driving a car is the most polluting act an average citizen commits I would say that it is extremely reasonable.
So LTNS, are you going to give up driving your car? |

Posted - 08/01/2008 : 15:01:18 Ok so we kill the cows with foot and mouth and live off mung beans instead- sorted
Ice lakes are a big problem, perhaps we could cover them with cling film. Maybe though all the flooding from sea level rises will create more wetlands which are a carbon sink.
I don't have figures for the CO2 emitted by humans, although I agree that most of it is probably from plants. Thing is plants also trap carbon and take it in so it's a complex balanced cycle we iz pushing over da edge innit.
In terms of how I would prefer to go, out of your list I think I’d like to be asphyxiated by Co2.

Posted - 08/01/2008 : 13:28:40 Most of the methane from cows is emitted from the mouth not the other end.
Methene is a bigger danger than CO2 and now the permafrost ice lakes of Siberia are melting we are all doomed! Loads of trapped methane.
Do you have figures for the amoumt of CO2 in a % emitted by humans?
Smoking should calm car drives down so they are less throttle happy and therefore reduce the CO2 emitted by the car. So on balance if you need to smoke in your car its good for reducing CO2 emissions and road rage!
So how would you like to go?
Drowned due to increasing sea levels? Poisoned by CO2? Burnt to death in thenew European desert? Run over in a road rage attack by a stressed out smoker who had to give up?

As I seem to remember from basic car mechanics they put out Carbon Monoxide not Carbon Dioxide,so why should LT stop driving around in his Robin? Anyway most CO2 derives from breathing and plant respiration so I am putting froward that we all cement over our gardens and hold our breath for as long as possible every day and all exercise should be banned to cut out heavy breathing. A by-product of this would be that as we each got larger we would in effect become carbon sinks ourselves. No LT has the right idea, cutting out as much physical exertion as possible and keeping his breathing down he is helping the planet more by absorbing more carbon than he releases and should be commended. In fact he could help the planet more by reducing methane which is 10 times more dangerous as a greenhouse gas most of which comes from flatulent cattle. By eating a cow every day pretty soon we would all be living in a balmy paradise sitting in the shade cast by LTs personal carbon sink..........
Cars give out Carbon Dioxide, Carbon Monxide, Nitrogen Oxides, Sulphur Dioxise, Benzene, Formaldehyde, Polycuclic hydrocarbons amongst a few other things such as lead.
You are right that Carbon Monxide isn't a greenhouse gas, but it is a pollutant that harms our health.
You are wrong in saying that cars do not give out CO2, passanger cars contribute to about %12 of the EU's emissions. Cars also give out Nitrogen Oxide which is about 600 times more potent a Greenhouse gas then Carbon Dioxide. Although it's in smaller quanties so makes up less the %10 of total greenhouse gases.
I agree we should eat all the cows, either that or attach ballons to their backsides to capture all the methane.
Basically cars kill people everyday, contribute to global warming. They are however useful and essential for the current economic structure. Which is why unlike smoking they have not been banned. |

Posted - 08/01/2008 : 09:57:17 Yes carbon monoxide kills, it is collected by hemoglobin but not released so you turn blue and suffocate. But are you willing to hold your breath as much as possible every day?

Posted - 08/01/2008 : 09:40:57 Fair enough Fubar ... but isn't Carbon Monoxide a killer? I seem to remember reading stories where holiday makers have died in their little self catering apartments because the gasfire/boiler hadn't been serviced in years and therefore the levels of Carbon Monoxide rose to unacceptable levels? Unacceptable to human lungs that is. |

Your car fumes pollute pedestrians as well LTNS. On the basis that we should all be responsible for our own actions ... Are you going to stop polluting the lungs of innocent pedestrians or are you going to keep on driving your car? |

Right ... however that is not the question LTNS ... You were asked whether you would continue to drive your car.
Do you feel you have the right to pollute innocent pedestrians with your vehicular pollution? If you feel you do not have that right, are you going to give up driving your car? |
