Posted - 24/01/2008 : 21:38:24 Then there`s the odd other side of the coin, British patients who go abroad for treatment that they can`t get here without a stupidly long wait, and that`s not even Private, it`s Contracted Out!! No, it doesn`t make much sense, does it. I would also like to reassure folks who go abroad, get ill and need urgent treatment, then come home to recuperate, there`s some bloody Brilliant Emergency care in Spain, France & Greece. Also in a certain Muslim state too. There may be also in other countries but I`ve no first hand experience of nursing folks who got sick/suffered trauma elsewhere. NO `foreigner` should be given anything less than the best care just because they`re `foreign`, wherever they are when they`re stricken, or wherever they are from! Would you really WANT to be treated by a doctor who had so little regard for the sick that he`d just turned away the chap in front of you the A&E queue on the grounds of `foreign - unable to PAY` ??? |

Typical of Neo Conservative New Labour. Utter Incompetence of New Labour NHS.
from Nightowl's link: quote: A spokesperson from the trust said 90% of its debt was from overseas patients to whom it had provided emergency treatment, and less than 10% to private customers who had booked their treatment in advance.
So what would you have the NHS do LTNS? Turn away a tourist with a burst appendix, and to almost certain death, unless cold hard cash exchanged hands first? |
