I sat in my car on my teabreak this afternoon, had Radio Wales news on the car radio. I wish I hadn`t, this is haunting me. Details of the way a 2-year old child suffered months of agony from the adults (so-called mother, and her boyfriend later became husband) who got 12 years and 6 years jail sentences respectively. I thought this would be on the forum, thought you`d all be up in arms about it. I tried not to keep thinking about it, but that was no use, so I asked my son to help with posting the link because it made me feel so sick and it`s still doing it. I`m really not squeamish, can handle stuff that would make most folks heave, but this got to me and ever since it`s been a mixture of nausea and anger. This wasn`t Manslaughter, this was Murder after months of torture, Betrayal by the so-called `mother` and by the Health Visitor and Social Worker who should have SEEN the child, should have made it their business to see the poor little mite never mind being `aware` of a problem but saying the parents kept her hidden. HOW!!!! Now they`re having a Review....some report will come out next year. Fat lot of good THAT will do for any other little ones in the same situation as little Lois right now! Did someone call this the Nanny State? Not for those who need it most, it isn`t. |

Posted - 18/10/2007 : 08:09:31 Just hope their given a real bad time in prison they deserve it. Time and time again since Maria Coldwell we have had enquiries and reports proclaiming lessons have been learnt and it won't happen again, but it does. Time there were more sackings and prosecutions of authorities for their serious neglect of the vulnerable young and old in our community. Those that new what was going on and stood by and did nothing should hold their heads in shame...... |

I would go further with regards the betrayal. This is a betrayal of that poor little mite by the whole of mankind and everyone who was 'aware' of her existence. The vulnerable in society are the responsibility of the whole of society; not just the parents or, failing that, the authorities. And as far as the apportioning of blame is concerned; I blame the neighbours/relatives/strangers that walked past this poor little mite as much as that so called mother and that stepfather and the authorities who did not insist on seeing Lois. |
