It seems that Lord Goldsmith is leaving in the wake of Blair's departure ... I can't say as I'll be glad to see the back of him to tell you the truth. BAE/Cash for Honours/Questionable legality of the Iraq invasion and the further decimation of legal aid ... to name but a few. A Blairite through and through and as such he probably would not find it comfortable once Blair has departed.

Blair will need someone to watch his back if he gets to be "Emperor" of Europe.

I do not think you can blame any particular government for the BAE/Saudi deal.
That was just getting business and keeping in the Saudis.
Better us sell the airplanes than the Americans or Russians.
