The Press are behaving much as they did when the Grinning One came along.

Well, Gordon carefully maintained his silence on many issues, and has remained remarkably free of the taint of Blairism, so presumably he'll present himself as the new broom.

Trouble is, the closer you look at Gordon, the more you analyse his so very carefully-crafted words, the more and more he begins to resemble the very thing he is replacing.

For some reason he has been indeservedly awarded the title "Iron Chancellor", and has managed to kid everybody that he doesn't want to sink the UK into an EU superstate.

Yet Gordon has managed to pick our pockets like few other Chancellors, has presided over an entire series of catastrophic Treasury decisions, and has nowhere argued against a United Europe.
