Posted - 30/09/2007 : 10:03:20 Well, it seems that the costs have soared to almost double the original estimate and yet again it appears our council deems it fit for our cash to go and prop up a private company quote: Under the contract Veolia is liable for all increased costs to the project but councillors feared that without help the contractor would go bankrupt causing the project to collapse. Veolia faces a rise in construction costs from £71.7 million to £145.7 million.

TV Local News has reported that the Newhaven Incinerator has been given full permission to go ahead.
Of course Local Problems must be consulted.
You can consult local opinion and you can consider local problems but you cannot consult problems. Having said that, they do not really seem capable of consulting local opinion either ... well, not to the extent where they take notice of what is being said. |

Posted - 23/10/2007 : 09:37:37 You would still think it will be built due to the EU targets that must be met.
Winchester is the worst Green city in England,(Reported On SkyNews) they will pay Veolia to take all their stock to be burnt.
So once built Big Money will come in for them. |

Posted - 23/10/2007 : 08:37:09 Well, it seems as if Veolia may not get all our dosh ... quote: Changes in the Government's planning policies mean the authority's decision to build the plant in North Quay could be challenged.
On September 27 the Government's new local development framework came into effect and replaced the former local development plans.

If the incinerator emits smelly odour it will be fined.
You cannot smell many toxic gases but any toxins should be removed before emission.
You will suffer more harm to health living under power lines.
Most toxins are removed in the flute chimmeny, but not all Dioxins. Dioxins are accumlative in the food chain so releasing them into the environment is generally a pretty bad idea. You can read a government report on it if you like. I think the evidence of Dioxins damage to health is far more compelling then the dangers of power lines.

Posted - 30/09/2007 : 11:35:09 If the firm has made so great a miscalculation over the incinerator before it's even started, how can it be competent to run the thing?
If everybody recycled, there would be no need of it. |
