For Civil Liberties
Pubs should start the Ban Early
they have a 100 days or so until it comes in.

This is a Health Issue

For fuck's sake, LTNS - isn't it enough that the health fascists are going run things after July, without them bringing it in early?

Let us enjoy the remaining time we have, won't you?

My point is that come July us smokers have had it, but that isn't enough for the gorgeous but misguided Caroline Flint.

They have to spoil it for us early.

As for 'fuck' - if it's good enough for Shakespeare, it's good enough for me.

There is no doubt that it will go forward LTNS. But then I don't think many of us ever seriously considered that it might not have gone forward.

I just cannot help but wonder what next? Sugar is bad for us, health wise that is ...

That Current TV ad with One Smoker
and kids under a table eating
with a Deadly Black Smoke,

Oh, I wouldn't say that LTNS

Air Fresheners

Phenol, a solvent used to prevent the ingredients separating, may cause breathing difficulties and headaches if inhaled, and can irritate your eyes. If you get it on your skin, it can cause it to swell and peel, and possibly lead to hives (an itchy red rash).

Incinerators

Household bonfires and incinerators can produce chemicals known as dioxins, which have been found to cause abnormalities in animals' reproductive organs. Research carried out at the University of Leuven, in Belgium, found that teenagers living near waste incinerators producing dioxins have smaller testicles and smaller breasts than youngsters from rural areas.

Just a couple and there are plenty more I daresay

I do understand LTNS, believe me ... I fully appreciate the highly emotive message of the advert you are referring to. I also appreciate how you feel about it. But what you must understand is that these things are never as straightforward as all that. There is always going to be something that will affect people other then the immediate user. Look at air fresheners for instance ... I may spray air-freshener and someone else will be in the room and gets affected by it. Maybe not the first time it happens, maybe not the second time but gradually over time ... it will have a negative impact on a non-air-freshener sprayer ... Gradually over time the anecdotes will start building up. And then the the air-freshener manufacturers will start putting out 'scientific' reports poo-hooing the anecdotes and then you will get claims and counter claims and before you know it, air-fresheners will be banned in schools and then offices and next thing will be a motion before parliament and the whole thing will start all over again and all in the name of health.

Personally I do not have an issue with the smoking ban ... but I do have a huge issue with the idea of a smoking ban because it can be applied to so many other things.

OK you fear Bans.

Fair Point.

I do not like or use Air Fresheners.

Smoking in places like Cafe Nero
is so intense you feel sick.
That is one place that will be better
from july.

I`m a smoker, yet I do actually agree with banning smoking in public places, and there are many places that started imposing the ban early. I think this may be quite helpful to us smokers, as well as to the non-smokers. Last August, before my Hubby`s illness got to it`s acute and final stage, we went to South Wales, down to Pembroke, for a few days, we - 3 smokers, my Hubby the most dependent on taking a regular puff, and we stayed B&B 3 nights in a pub with a TOTAL smoking ban. Thing is, we coped, and went outside to smoke when we felt we really wanted to - and we were all quite chuffed that we had smoked far less, and not broken the house rule, and taken the thing in our stride, albeit for just a few days.

AIR FRESHENERS - Please God may they be banned too! Or the folks who spray them relentlessly violating other folks` airspace. This CAN be as bad as cigarettes! I did some shifts in a local nursing home a couple of years ago. The cleaner on alternate weekdays was very Busy, but not Diligent...and sprayed an awful lot to make up for it, maybe thinking if it smelt `nice` folks would think she`s cleaned their rooms properly. This was getting on MY chest, and some of the patients were downright Wheezing, NEEDING THEIR INHALERS OR NEBULISERS - when they didn`t need them the rest of the time. I had a word with the home owner, and suggested he stop buying the aerosol sprays, as they were getting over-used, and get plug-ins. He took my advice, and guess what happened - the cleaner then took to spraying furniture polish in the air instead.... presumably to make folks think the place was cleaner because it smelt of chemicals where she`d been!

This is great..next time a teenager annoys me I'll just say---"I guess you grew up near an incinerator then", shake my head and walk off. They'll spend all day trying to figure out if they have been insulted and how........

And by the by statistically you have more chance catching cancer by eating pork chops every week than from second hand smoke. Lets ban those pork chops......

I came into the world with nothing and still have most of it left..

Bus stops that have a Hedge
next to them will have No Smoking in Enclosed area.

If a Bus stop has no edges they can smoke.

A shop in London selling Silver
has been Told to put up No Smoking from his window
because his shop is in a Enclosed corner.
He does not want it on his window.

All these New Laws will come in next month or so.

Having been brought up surrounded by smokers, (at home and taken to smokey environments)I never really had the urge to smoke. However, for some reason I did for a short while.
It was not until I decorated my parents living room when they were too old I realised how bad this made the room. The ceiling and walls were thick with yellow nicotine stains. Really made me feel ill.

Smoking, drinking, driving, freshening air and farting in public all cause problems for others.
The thing about banning smoking is good but how long before the others are banned?

Not being able to pass wind in a confined space could lead to whole lot of others problems!

We're all doomed!
Head for the hills before they start heading for you!

I propose that all smokers meet up on the very last day for a final smokathon in a confined public space.

It does beg the question about fumes from cars.

These things are never logically consitent though.

I agree that air fresherners should be banned as I have an ashmatic friend who nearly died after someone decided to employ the 'lynx effect' on a bus.
