Is it possible Israel was fooled into helping Hamas survive the faction fighting with Fatah in Gaza? Newscasts here had the infighting seriously weakening the support for Hamas in Palestine...until Israel retaliated for those recent rocket attacks. Nothing unifies like a common enemy....
Israeli airstrikes kill 10 in Gaza
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - Israel pounded more Hamas targets with airstrikes, killing 10 people and wounding dozens as it stepped deeper into fighting between the Islamic militants and the rival Fatah fighters of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas....
"Israel will take every defensive measure to stop these rocket attacks. We will defend our citizens against the rockets, against the weapons, against the Iranian-backed Hamas who are attacking Israel," government spokeswoman Miri Eisen said.
But is Israel inadvertently helping Hamas to survive by stepping in the middle here???

| Yes, I understand the reaction to those rockets. But was it a set up? Did Hamas deliberately fire off those rockets to seduce Israel into retaliation? Did Hamas hope that Israeli reaction would unify Palestine against a common foe? And did Israel fall into the trap? |

| I daresay Camelot ... Hamas has very little regard for human life and so there is every reason to suppose that they will deliberately orchestrate matters. |

Hamas is horrible, so is Fatah and the plo. Fact is The jewish God does not recognise the palestinians and the palestinians do not recognise the Jewish God. FACT. Jewish God and Christian God are the same entity. Hence little sympathy for the palestinians from the majority of christian nations. Hence the palestinian embago by the USA and Euro. Yes Israel is backing Fatah with dosh and arms. |

What does any god have to do with it? Using that arguement it is gods will that they where they are so by fighting they are opposing gods will and are doomed to failure. They are the victims of the Arab worlds continued desire and failure to eliminate Israel by military force and have been used since 1948 as a propaganda tool. It is their own hatred and one track mindset that keeps them where they are. I guess the cause of their situation is themselves and until they change they will continue to wallow in their own misery......... . |

Fubar yes, the palestinians should make friends with israel as soon as possible and concede they have lost a little bit. I am sure that if the palestinians unconditionally surrender they will find the Israelis to be a kind loving people. |

Mir, yes FACT.
It is obviouse that the palestinians are lost in their cause. If the Israelis could somehow demonstrate to the palestinians that Israel is in FACT the font of human kindness and will help the vanquished? |

| Why sure ... once they stop complaining about having rockets fired at them in response to rockets being fired. It's a two way street Avro. |

As the palestinians are the obviouse loosers it is difficult for them to show human kindness to the victors. The israelis need to show some benevolence. How is this to be done? |

| Over 100 rockets fired into Israel this past week. Six airstrikes by the IAF in response, each of which targeted Hamas. And yet Fatah/Hamas fighting continues, despite the airstrikes, so it seems their policy has not been 100% successful. |

| The fight at the moment is primarily between Hamas and Fatah and it is mainly for the hearts and minds of the Palestinians. Hamas' firing of the rockets into Israel thereby provoking the anticipated response from the Israeli was just a step in their battle with Fatah. A cynical and utterly calculated step designed to provoke the loss of Palestinian lives by the Israeli. In that sense Hamas' policy has been 100% successful. |

That Nasty President Carter says that the israelis are practicing apartheid. This is most unfair as everyone knows that the israelis are the font of human kindness. Yes the nasty palestinians should stop welding bake bean cans together and lob them into peace loving israel. Amen |

| I see ... Israel has had nuclear weapons for umpteen year. I doubt very much that it is in any hurry to nuke them. And actually the fight is between more then just the Palestinian and the Israeli ... there is an additional fight going on between Fatah and Hamas at this moment that seems to take precedence over the Palestinian united disapprobation of Israel and no, the issue is far more then land. It is the survival of a people as a people. |

If you like, personally I think it is the viewpoint of a reasonable person but if you want to include the entire state of Israel in that category ... |

I saw the video feed of the car swarm above on Al Jazeera this morning. And yesterday someone (either Hamas or Fatah) fired through Al Jazeera's windows while their reporter was on air. Luckily nobody was hurt in that incident, although a minute later she popped up on screen again, this time more sensibly clad in a helmet and flak jacket and showed us the bullet holes in the glass. Earlier in the day she had been on the roof when one of the Israeli airstrikes took out a car load of Hamas nearby.

Nour Odeh. Quite a reporter!
And no, No Expert, the words on her chest are NOT to be taken literally. (Arf!) |

No ... not Hitler's legacy. It is a legacy of all those who will insist that one group is of more value then another. It is a legacy of fundamentalism, extremism and supremacy. Yes, it was something Hitler was/is renown for but he is not the only one. |
