Well, if justice has any part to play in local elections then the Labour lot should have a greatly reduced number of councillors, LibDem should certainly not increase its seats, the Greens are hopeless and as for the Conservatives ... Which leaves us with nothing at all really. So I hope we see a few more independents. I doubt it though. There are a number of individual councillors who, irrespective of their party affiliation, have worked for their wards first and foremost. I hope to see them back after the elections ... the rest can go hang as far as I am concerned and chief amongst those are the Codfish, Elgood, Burgess, Fitch, Hawkes, Mitchell, Peltzer-Dunn, Morgan and Turton!

Shame we cannot vote to have them kicked out. I support the above proposal. Anyone have any info on new names standing. Might be more interesting than slagging off the usual suspects.

I think our patch up here will stay predominantly Labour. Two reasons - the catchment area contains so many pre-programmed habitual Labour voters, who have campaigned about local issues, with pretty solid support from their council members and a lot of lethargic `don`t know/don`t care` types.
Second reason, our local Labour lot, as well as a couple of Independents are doing a fair job of things locally. We`ve had some changes ibn the balance, but change takes time to happen in local politics, I think.

Perhaps the Greens will get more seats but, at the same time, have they lost some momentum?

I hear that the Conservatives are claiming that roy is using unfair tactics in Regency ward.

All credit to him. He has hit on the wheeze of hiding in the communal bins first thing every day, and every time somebody opens it up, he greets them with one of his leaflets and asks for their vote.

There's certainly no need for a Monty Python reunion when roy's on the stump. What's more, the novelty of this approach is getting him support, and only one startled resident has said, "I knew your lot were rubbish, roy, but you didn't need to make it so obvious!" But I gather that was a rival candidate, and you expect them to be rude.

Another amusing feature of the elections - letters to the Argus, apparently from a concerned citizen and when you get to the end of it you realise that it's a bit of electioneering from some prospective councillor.

Argus reports today that if roy carries on with his unorthodox election campaign he could be "deselected".

Still no sign of roy over here.

Come on roy, even though Blair has renewed theatrical aspirations, no amount of sitting in those communal bins is going to land you a Samuel Beckett dustbin.

The arrival here of Brian Ralfe as a candidate is becoming the talk of Brunswick.

It is a sign of the onward march of the true independents.

Paul Elgood is muttering darkly into his lasagne at this turn to events.

Anything that has Elgood muttering darkly or otherwise for that matter has my vote.

Yes, Elgood will not take kindly to this in his little empire.

drop out west street from the crime equation and what is the real figure? and if the "prospectives" want to spread half way houses across the city, why not spread the night clubs accross the city? anyone want the new Event in the midle of whitehawk? or creations in hangleton? what would happen to their low crime rate then?

Ye Gawds ... my fingers are itching for a red pen! It isn't just bad spelling and grammar, it wouldn't even pass a basic pragmatic coherency test.

Does this level of literacy give us any hope that candidates will be able to read and act on all the council reports that come their way after victory at the election ?

In Election leaflets Labour is claiming that it will reduce bus fares.

How will it do that? Has Roger French been leant upon to increase them so that they can then be reduced - like wine "offers" in Tesco?

Things sound as if they are getting lively in Brunswick,: the independent candidate is stirring it up: seems that Councillors Elgood and Watkins are barred from the Bow Street Runner pub on account of their anti-social voting.

and just noticed the leaflet from the lib-dems - "the chuckle brothers" - that they are really helping their prospective voters in the regency ward , by planting a tree in norfolk suare?!
Will they do the same for every other area?

This is why Labour could struggle in May
http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/letters/argusletters/display.var.1318165.0.litany_of_errors.php
I would think that this is a fairly common reaction now among traditional Labour voters.

Reports are coming in that Ken B is now a fish out of water.

He himself has had to turn out in search of votes rather than get minions to do so.

He was even foraging for them high on Essex Place block.

Seems that this fellow Brian Ralfe is flooding Brunswick with a leaflet which states that the LibDems' "political integrity and local interest can be called into question... when Labour say jump our two Liberal Councillors say 'how high''".

Looks as if war is breaking out over there. It's certainly difficult to discover what the point of the LibDems is in Brighton and Hove.

Brian Ralfe could indeed cause the LibDems an upset there.
