Live Link and Video.

People want to get away on Holiday
not get a Militant in the way of it.

This bunch will not stop the Heathrow Expansion.
if they were brave they would have gone to Parliament Sq
getting better interviews.

They have a mixture on that field
but they may ,in effect, also let Terrorists in
without knowing.
That is what some Police claim.

They seem to be well supported though LTNS and quite frankly that 'they may be letting terrorists in' is such a buzz word that it has become largely meaningless.

The Terroism act 2000 was brought in before the Twin Towers attack in September 2001. It was meant to deal with the 'threat' of UK environmental and anti-capitalist protests. The government and police force is more than happy to use the treat from Islamic extermism as an excuse for using tough tactics on these protesters.

Of course they support the myth that we all have some kind of right to fly for our Hollidays every year but the protesters have claimed they will not try and distrupt passengers but rather aim their protest at the airline industry that encourages expansions despite the environmental damage the industry casues.

I personally don't fly for environmental reasons and support these protesters.

Meanwhile Herr Redwood is going to be calling for a doubling of the amount of roads in the UK and for increased expansion of airports. Not quite the green image Cameron would like us to belive about his party.

The government is too scared to stand upto people that sometimes fly many times a year. Fact is they are selfishly ruining the planet and making a mockery of attempts by others to reduce their carbon footprint.

Yes Moon everyone will Fly even more
due to great deals.

http://www.cheapflights.co.uk/flights/Geneva/Gatwick/

The protesters are not a problem
so long as they stay away from the Airport
and public area.

Time will tell,
they have big amounts of Food
so they want to stay a long time.

Yes obviously food is the determining factor in all of this.

More people everyday are becomming more aware of the environmental cost of flying. As this happens many people will choose not to fly as they care more about the environment.

Because a New Air Deal has been set up
from the easy to go through Small Airport Shoreham.
Small Planes as well.

LTNS, you missed my point dear. I meant WHY would folks want to?
My viewpoint is coloured by the fact that I hate flying, so I tend to regard folks flying several times a year unnecessarily as behaving excessively.
This is of course NOT fair or rational of me, I admit.
The `need` for yet another runway is another matter though, and I do see the protesters point.
I`m not so hypocritical that because I now choose not to fly (have flown many many times and never got to like it any better!) I`m being more eco-friendly that the folks who fly a lot. I do admit I drive when I could walk instead.

Less Stress
than the Gatwick Deal.
Shoreham is a great airport
local to Brighton.

Just because you do not Fly much
does not mean we have to be like you.

The More Deals
that are now around
to Fly is Cool.

And of course you see the Protesters point
that will not Stop the New Bigger Area that will now be built.
It is a Mega Industry
that serves everyone even very poor folk
on a Holiday out of this nation , for a change.

Fair enough, LT, each to his own is what I`m saying. I`m off to Devon next month, and I really DO hope that not everyone will be like me! On another thread you referred to August as `this holiday month` - yet some of us deliberately avoid peak seasons when we can, and not because of price differences but for a bit of PEACE!
We`re driving to Devon, partly for the sake of being independent of public transport during our stay, but partly so as NOT to be on a crowded coach or train. I never liked the crowdedness of planes, either!

Well, we`re anticipating rain. Ain`t made of sugar, won`t bloody dissolve!
Packing wellies and waterproofs, microfibre towels and flasks for hot soup or coffee...for days out from caravan (Well, some folks DELIBERATELY go where it`s freezing and snowy, I`m not that mad!)

What matters is getting away, from home & work & family duties, from phone, pc and telly, and getting outdoors as much as possible, whilst still having some locus of control over what and when we eat, when we sleep or wake, what time (if at all) we drink or stop drinking, and driving or walking or both to see what we want to see, and talking when we want to, rather than doing the prescribed `Thou shalt have Fun, tis Compulsory`...
I`m going off to re-charge, not to stress through airports and come back knackered!

We used to do Viking re-enactment when my hubby was alive, and when the kids were young we used to go weekend camping quite near home, as well as hols in Greece. Comparing the two types of break, I find that we spent a lot more time reminiscing and laughing about the wet-weather `disaster` hols than the `expect it to be perfect` ones. `Fun` is also retrospective!

I know exaclty what you mean Fluffy ... we've had a lot more retrospective fun out of holidays that went 'wrong' ... funny thing is that we also had a lot more fun on them as well.

Thanks Mim, so it`s not just this odd family then!
DaveB, look up Norse Film & Pageant Society, aka `Vikings`. It may surprise you to know this middle-aged nursey-type was, as recently as 6 years ago, camping with family and `extended family` in authentic 10th century style home-made tents, wearing authentic kit, and cooking/eating al fresco a la 10C! Yes, there was much pillage and plunder being re-enacted, and proper battles too. (As most of our shows catered for a family audience rape may have been inferred but never explicitly so!)
I didn`t do battle, but did wield a cast-iron cooking skillet when our `living history village` got pillaged. Great fun.
Some of our best `fun disasters` were on Vike do`s.
Whitby Abbey, when the frame tent blew away, tent poles twisted beyond help - our last show in `plasti-camp`, we made our own and went`authenti-camp after that.
Scarborough Castle, when my late hubby was seen apparently hang gliding off a double airbed after the wind blew our tent over at 3am, while I was gathering our blankets and opening the van doors for him to put the airbed in there...my son and several friends camped nearby were too helplessly knobbled with mirth to assist.
No, the best disaster of all was the Leixlip Festival, (near Dublin,) we did a 5 - day show there, which took place after a fortnight of solid rain, so camping on boggy ground and then it rained some more, meant each tent had its own moat (but our authenti-tents didn`t leak!) This time we were cooking on PEAT instead of logs in the firepits. Damp peat takes awhile to get going, you see, hence the Very Famous Leixlip Egg.
Fire was in there somewhere, smelt wonderful, smoking a fair bit. Put a flat skillet on, with a blob of vegetable fat so we could see when it melted... eventually it di. Then we pondeered over how we`d know when the fat was hot - so broke an egg into it. TWO HOURS later that same egg looked cooked!! The meal we eventually cooked on that fire, still ranks among the `best ever`s. Cauldron full of many chicken portions and vegetables (no spuds, but garlic, mushrooms and fresh herbs, and the tang of peat-smoke and fresh soda-bread to dip..bloody fantastic it really was!) We were also comforted by local hospitality, involving much free Guinness and the use of loo`s and hot showers at Leixlip Rugby Club, where they also treated us to a display of Irish dancing by the local youngsters that beat the hell out of River Dance.

Arf! I can only assume this is parody as surely no one would be so dumb as confuse the hole in the ozone layer that causes an increase of UV rays reaching the earth's surface with global warming which is related to the retention of Infrared radiation by greenhouses gases within the atmosphere.

Of course not everyone at the site is an expert on the facts. Education is needed by some protesters as well as many members of the public. Part of the point in the Eco-Camp is to have educational sessions for this purpose.

It's also worth realizing that the TV crews take great delight in finding protesters who meet the dumb crusty stereotype. Just look at the way that Idiot Dan (aka Swampy) got to be the spokesman for the anti-road tree protests.

There is a repot that BAA staff are asking to see everyone's tickets on the way into the terminal. Apparntley they head that protesters would be wearing suits to gain access to the airport.

This will probably slow things down more than the protesters would.
