| I don`t like the idea of adding a telly fee to council tax, nor of telly fee exemption for everyone on benefits. |

Fluffy it can not stay as it is in this Age.
This way they will do it, means no one escapes paying.
And the Current Stupid TV Poll Tax will go. |

| So many on benefits who are fitter and more able-bodied than many of those who work, exempt council tax so will they be exempt telly fees? I mean no offence to the many genuine folks on benefits, as anyone who knows me will understand, but there are many - including some of my `extended family somewhat removed` , who are an almost professional drain on the benefit system, living very well and doing F-all for it, and you know, they wouldn`t be the ones to be offended by my thoughts, as genuine claimants would, they`d laugh and bloody gloat! |

Once again the laugh's on me!
It's all right for all you Livewire youngsters, but the ONLY consolation I had in passing the 75 mark was the TV licence fee was 'gone forever' (I thought); now another £100 will be added to council tax bills. Ugh!
Hope the rest of you all live to be 150 .... |

James Murdoch, who works for news international, owner of Fox news and the sun, those right wing pro-war bastions of virtue. And you actually give a shit about what he says.
I'll sum up his point. He wants rid of the BBC so his company can make more profit and spread more bile across the world.
And graphs at the end? oooh, did you actually understand them? Or was it the pretty colours.
Long live the BBC, and if you object to the licence fee which is about a tenner a month, then you're just tight. Plain and simple. |

It should be remembered that the BBC is a British institution par excellence. With it's crest and motto "Nation shall speak peace unto Nation" no other broadcasting company or corporation comes up to its ideals. It should also be remembered that not only does it dispense entertainment, news et al on television and radio, but it has designed scores of electronic devices, a great many of which are still in use. A classic is the electronic music at the opening of the first "Dr Who" and still used in the openings today. I wonder if anyone remembers to first video tape machine way back in the late 40's. The forerunner of all todays taped programmes. Go back to the early days when it was the Empire Broadcasting Service and even before that when the radio amateur was at the forefront.
When push comes to shove no other broadcasting media can reach the standard of "Auntie" as she is affectionally known. Be grateful that we have a broadcasting Corporation that is the envy of the World. |

| I second that, Blondie! And Daveb. Despite my moans at so many tv repeats, the licence fee is worth it for the radio service alone, I reckon. Re. the Dr. Who theme tune, did anyone hear the radio 4 prog about how this REALLY started, a drama-documentary thing about a woman called Delia Derbyshire (though she didn`t get the credit for it), I think it was a year or more ago when we heard it. |

More nods of agreement from the Horse stable. I'm an avid listener to Radios 4, 2, 7 and 5Live and occasionally find time to watch BBC TV as well.
Fluffy, did you catch "How To Write An Instruction Manual" on R4 the other night?
I have the podcast as an MP3 if you'd like it.
Happy educating and enlightening.

That is wise as he is to Old and is to Grumpy.
What is going on at the BBC? Something about Terry Wogan hanging up his wig has brought all these mixed metaphors about "drivetime" and "flagship". As far as I can make out, "drivetime" is the afternoon", so are morning travellers going by water (sea, river, canal) on a "flagship"?
I have never heard this man Wogan, just read about him in passing - mostly the wig bit - and that sure is thumpingly obvious from the photo -, so I cannot understand what the fuss is about.
DJ throws it in, that's what this amount to! It's not as if he had created even the humblest one-hit wonder he put on the turntable, is it?
What will he leave for anybody to remember after he is dead? |

Like anything that passes it/yhey are soon forgotten or just become a lingering memory.
So yet another DJ with an over-inflated ego moves on. Radio and the DJ become part of peoples lives. A good radio presenter forms a relationship with their listeners and become rather like friends to some. Wig or not many like his personality. Something that many of the new batch of presenters lack. |
