Whitehawk would be the best place for the Brighton ones.

Whitehawk? The gateway to Hades. There are many places in Sussex where a stiff breeze is always on hand. Try walking the downs. |

Yep, that would be good.
I still have doubts about low freqency noise from them. |

| I`d welcome them here, honestly. Ever since I met the ones on Anglesey I`m a total convert. Daveb, we stopped the car umpteen times as close as possible to the windmills, and I got out just to listen. Low-level noise? It was rather insipid, could hardly hear anything except once when it was very windy, and there was just a very gentle whooshing sound, cows grazing righ under it seemed un- perturbed.. |

The low level noise thing may happen at certain speeds. The sweep of the blades may just cause a low frequency base hum. Not normally detected. I did however work with a guy who had a hearing aid. He was the only one who complained when a certain piece of kit was used in the workshop. A base drumming noise he said. The problem was cured by fitting the kit on anti-vibration mounts. |

| When my daughter was little there was talk of fitting her with a hearing aid. I decided against it as hearing aids amplify all sounds, without discrimination. A couple of years later I made friends with a deaf couple. They both wore hearing aids. They found it extremely irksome trying to communicate as they had to actively filter out a lot of background noise we hearing people filter out automatically as being insignificant. |

| I`ve nursed a lot of older folks with hearing aids. Over the years, the majority of the ones who knew which way up they were and able to tell us what they thought...said the best thing about hearing aids was being able to switch `em OFF! (Some missed being able to switch `em off, had to ask nurses to do it for them!) |

Anyway back to the topic, as I understand it the wind isn't strong enough on a regular basis for turbines in Sussex. No wind-no power and it cannot be stored and used later.

Yes, this is the episode in which Basil asks her, "is this a piece of your brain?" |

Fubar, I can`t help pointing out that the article (or letters) are by the `anti` faction. I deeply distrust folks who have their own agenda when presenting information.
LT, thanks for that lovely clip, brilliant stuff. If I may wander off-topic back to hearing aids... we had a certain old lady in the nursing home, really sweet - unless the telly was on. She used to commandeer the remote, and the others either had to suck up to her or get staff to intervene if they had any telly preferences. Sometimes she`d sulk, and take the remote and hide it, too! One day we caught her red-handed with a hearing-aid advert that had been enclosed with the Sunday newspapers. The hearing aid had a remote control...she was trying to convince 2 old men that if they had one of these gismos the staff could see to their hearing aids without fiddling with their ears....and the look in her eyes was just scary - The Dream of Power.... |
