Radical thinking and massive rebuilding of the infrastructure.
Building of Churchill Square was the death knell for London Road and has reduced it to a "local" shopping area rather like St James Street. It will not attract the big name stores. Western Road is also closer to the more pubs/restuarants etc...

Therefore why not bulldoze large amounts of it and turn it into this wonderful "city park" that was suggested a little while back.

The road layout could change to try to improve flow.

Houses could be built around. Just think we could cram in another 20,000 peolpe in the area.

Then of course they would have to travel to Western Road to shop.

Just some ideas!

But London Road may soon have a New Big Store
taking over that Co-Op building.

Churchill Sq is full of clone shops
it has nothing special in it.

So a New Special Store
first time in Brighton in London Road
would overtake Churchill (Bland) Sq, easy.

Well that's more creative thinking in about an hour in this topic than a lot of stuff that emerged from Fanshawe, Bassam & cronies.

I agree
1 major store will turn rundown London Road
into the destroyer of a 470,000 sq ft
85 shop, 5 restaurant and 1,600 parking space mall.

Churchill square has no chance.

If the London Road is redeveloped in any of these ways, that means Greggs would be sacrificed.

Perhaps a blue plaque could put up on the site to record for posterity the part played by (70) 75p tea in this civic strategy.

A CCTV camera could be positioned to prevent LTNS coming along and altering the price over the years.

Terrible news.

Sir Michael Darrington has recently announced that he wants to double Greggs turnover to 1billion before he leaves in three years' time.

It is unlikely that he will double the prices, so it looks as if we'll be inundated with more of the shops.

I wonder what Sir Michael's reaction would be if he got home after a hard day and Lady Darrington said with a smile, "good evening, dear, oh, champagne, lovely! Dinner's almost ready - we've got Heinz soup, a tuna baguette and we can break open a bag of jam donuts if you're still hungry after that!"

The Sony and Greggs shops
are not part of the Updated plans.

Even Open Market Updated plans, if they ever do them,
are well away from them.

So you are very wrong.

It's clear that LTNS's shoes are laced up wrong, he'd better take off his homburg because his overcoat is too long. Can be spotted a mile off.

I hope that isn't a reference to LT noshing tramps. An allegation that is wholly untrue.

No, that would make LTNS turn a whiter shade of pale if the pasties had not already made him do so.

It is thanks to the likes of LTNS that Sir Michael Darrington lives a life of luxury.

Poor Steve Jobs, all that work - with iMacs and iPods - to turn Apple's fortunes round, and it all looks set to go to waste now that LTNS stands revealed as an Apple user (or so one must assume after his attack on Gates).

What would have happened to computer developments if all those Silicon Valley types had subsisted on Greggs' products rather than take-away pizza? Their thought process would have been so hobbled that we would probably have still be in the era of those five-inch floppies.

Open Source is the way to go but I agree with that apocalyptic vision of a young Gates & colleagues subsisting on Greggs fare. Who knows how much bad code and software bugs that would have resulted in.

I fear that at Greggs it is more a case of Open Sauce.

I gather that they used to drench the stuff in "mayo" and had a sign up to say that custom-made, mayoless sandwiches could not be provided as they were too busy to nip out the back and do so.

Perhaps Lady Darrington had words with Sir Michael, and wisdom has now prevailed because they have gone easier on the mayo.

Good mayo should of course be strong on garlic and if Greggs had not been so stingy on the garlic then it would not have had so many complaints about its mayo.
