It seems that the consultation for this started quite a while ago but for some reason the matter had been kept rather quiet and low key. We now have only till the end of March to get as many signatures as possible.

Email the council with your objections: ehl.community@brighton-hove.gov.uk
Join the BARKING MAD CAMPAIGN GROUP www.myspace.com/barkingmadcampaign
Sign our petition www.petitiononline.com/BRIGHTON
Join the protest march on Saturday 1st March

I see that Paul Elgood is sitting on the fence over this, and, indeed, seems concerned only about the Brunswick bit of the beach.

There should indeed be parts of the beaches that are dog free. I think most responsible people would agree to that. Just as there are parts of the city where it should be necessary to have your dog on a leash. I for one would be far more amenable to the occasional restriction on dogs and their owners had there been some designated areas where dogs are free to be free; like doggy parks for instance.
I accept that not all people are doggie people but for some of those who are their dog is a lifeline ... and I am not talking about 'seeing-eye' dogs or 'helper' dogs where this is self evident. I am talking about the little old lady or gent who would never really go for a walk was it not for the fact that their dog needs it. I am talking about those who depend on their dogs for company and a listening ear, for the non-judgemental unconditional acceptance that only an animal can give - and none so well as a dog. Not all dog owned humans can make their way to a remote part of the Downs.

This is a finer specimen than Elgood and Theobald combined.
Geoffrey Theobald has become the most unpopular man in Brighton and Hove. |

There is a grand dog march from the Lagoon at eleven o'clock on Saturday 1st, and goes to the Palace Pier. People and dogs, or just people, can join along the way.
Canine power could win the day, and send Geoffrey Theobald to whatever pound is used for wild politicians to cool off. |

Here is news that could be handy if Geoffrey Theobald and Brian Oxley do not play ball. A postie in Philadelphia was trapped inside her car for nearly two hours at a house near Hanover earlier in the week after a pair of dogs attacked and flattened three of her tyres
Robin Barton had to summon help by cell phone Wednesday. When the police arrived, the dogs attacked the cruiser's tyre as well.
Authorities were preparing to tranquilize the dogs Judge and Justice, a Rottweiler and a pit-bull mix, before the surprised and apologetic homeowner arrived.
Stephanie Dekelbaum, the dogs' owner, called them ''generally sweethearts'' and blamed the attack on a tyre toy the dogs had recently been given.

Mrs Poppadum has learnt that, behind the scenes, the Council's Chief Executive, Alan McCarthy, is taking a lot of flak for not having had the sense to realise that the dog ban would bring a great deal of bad publicity.
He is in a position to have advised against the proposal before it was ever aired but did not do so. |

In principle the idea of clean beaches is great. Trouble they are always going to be messed up by something. Things have improved around Brighton & Hove with regard to dog mess. As a boy I can clearly remember getting covered in it when playing football in parks around Brighton and treading in it more than once in the streets.
Again, dog owners (like smokers) all get a blanket ban. If there can be designated dog beaches then there can be designated smoking pubs etc.
Too much like common sense!!! |

A seagull 'got' me last week on Hove Prom - I say ban them all! I was so amazed at getting a dollop on my head and shoulders that i collided with a chap on a bicycle doing about 30 mph over the no cycling sign. He did look so cross. |

| I notice that Councillor David Watkins has now come to heel, and signed the Petition. He is on the latest page. A bit slow, he's been. The Central Ward Conservative councillors have not signed it. This could cost them their seats. |

| Thanks for that link, CP. I do agree with much of what that chap is saying. Banning dogs from beaches is about as sensible as banning kids from them, then you could say `unaccompanied` kids. Then yopu`d hope that the accompanying adults would ensure the kids didn`t wreck and litter the place - and that the adults themselves wouldn`t either. Hopeful, aren`t we? |

Is there a problem with dogs fouling the beach? doubt it, if there is a real problem it would be discarded sharps.
A case of council officials solving a problem that doesn't exist, typical waste of public money again........ |

Only a moron could have dealings with Geoffrey and NOT be "outraged".
Yet again, the 'consultation' issue. So far as Councils (and governments!) are concerned, a 'consultation' means no more than that opportunity is provided for everyone to express a point of view. There is no suggestion nor commitment that the authority in question has to act upon the views expressed, even if they clearly reflect the majority opinion. |

Anybody know when the Council will announce the result of its "consultation"?
There are suspicions that Geoffrey Theoabld will want to ban the dogs in revenge for not being chosen as Tory leader, which was partly the result of the great upset he caused with his anti-dogs measure. |

Tory councillors were shocked by his handling of the Dogs issue, and this made the voting between him and Mary Mears very close - there was one vote in it. |
