Still do not understand why the Forum should want to provide space for Google to advertise and pocket loot from these firms.

We can only shudder to think of what place LTNS lives in if the London Road branch of Greggs is better than that. Perhaps he does not have room for the wholesale pack of Tetley's teabags at such a good price.

If you think LTNS had a fixation upon pasties, look at this: towards the end of the piece is a fellow who has compiled an Encyclopaedia of the Cornish Pasty. And there is a war between those made in Devon and those in Cornwall. So why is Greggs allowed to call its pasties Cornish? An affront to geography.

Some believe that pasties date from 8000BC, and perhaps Greggs in the London Road Brighton is indeed evidence of that.

In my Home I use Kenya Tea Bags
which have a Kick.

If I am in London Road
I will buy the best Value Take Away Tea
from the Greggs Store.

Kenya tea bags! That explains a lot, the kick in them must lie behind many of LTNS's musings.

Will the "chefs" at Greggs find inspiration here when reconsidering the innards of their pasties?

Kangaroo cannot be added to Greggs pasties as, word is, that a special characteristic of these pasties is that they do not bounce but create a large hole if they fall on the ground. Added kangaroo would change everything that Greggs' customers appreciate in such a pile-driver of pasty.

An urgent meeting has been arranged by the top brass at Greggs to devise a way to rival this superior, much tastier donut being sold by Morrisons. I like the suggestion that this is the way that evidently donuts get their hole!

I am told that the pies sold by the meat shop opposite London Road Greggs are far superior to anything in Greggs. Why, then, hasn't LTNS sampled these pies so that he is in a position to comment authoritiatively upon the state of London Road and Greggs' status within it?

In dwelling upon Greggs, LTNS has also overlooked the items available in Principal meat shop a few doors to the north of Greggs.

What with that, and his belated mention - only after being asked - of the meat shop opposite Greggs, I wonder how familiar he is with everything that the London Road Brighton has to offer.

Greggs are advertising for staff in their windows.

"At Greggs we work and grow together just like a real family. Warm, friendly and engaging, you'll love talking with our customers... Our roles are more physically demanding than most people think."

Presumably in the last sentence that is a misprint for "rolls"?

And the rest is as sickly as the cakes.

Greggs is selling gooey items for Hallowe'en. But none of these would be as terrifying to wave during "trick or treat?" than one of its regular pasties.

Guaranteed to have people screaming on the doorstep or at a children's party.

Pumpkins are cheap, nutricious, and in season now. Abandon the pastie shops and get into real food, pumpkin pie with loads of nutmeg, an egg and some brown sugar, goo that is natural and home-made, a real seasonal treat (simple to make if you can get someone to CUT the darn pumpkin! Grr, I can`t!) Scoop out the seeds, wash and dry them out and if you don`t want to eat them any pet rodents or wild birds will.

Row faster, slaves! Caesar wants to waterski!

But if you have to stick with the pasties, there is now a pasty shop on Gardner Street in the North Laine. What's more, if you buy a coffee before 10, you can get another free at any time of the day.

This is much better than Greggs.

There have been occasions when I have been accused of being a "backwoodsman". Maybe that explains why I'd never heard of 'Greggs' until I found the Livewire site -- and it's only one afternoon last week That I actually set foot in one, to look at the wares on sale at the counter (in Western Road, near Churchill Square). I'd decided to try out one of the pasties, for myself ... but it was too late in the day and they'd sold out.

We have a grandson staying with us for his last year at university (Sussex) and Mrs Anubis and I often wonder what might make an occasional tasty evening snack for the three of us. Like me, Mrs Anubis has never purchased anything in Greggs before -- but we have agreed during the next week or so, when passing (probably the one in London Road), we'll get three Gregg's pasties for that daily occasion.

Watch this thread for a genuine, impartial opinion in the immediate future!

This is exciting! Lets have a full step by step photo story showing the whole pastie buying/eating/heading to A&E with food poisoning experience.

This could require the closest, most scientific observation since the Moon landing. It might cost a fortune but if that prevents Earth from being hit by a stray Pasty, it is money well spent. There is no telling what devilish plan is being fostereed in those Newcastle minds who lurk behind the Greggs logo.

Has Anubis designated somebody else to relay news of the Great Tasting in case the experiment should take an untoward turn?

If Jamie Oliver can do something for this American place, known as the unhealthiest of all, then perhaps he can whip the London Road Brighton into shape by setting up an alternative to Greggs.

On Borrowed Time -- D Day postponed!

Saturday is the only day of the week where we don't have a 'proper' dinner -- usually just fish and chips or baked beans with whatever .... We were in Churchill Square and I suddenly got the thought -- a Greggs pasty. So along Western Road we went, reaching Greggs at 11.13am -- only to find, once again, an empty tray, below the counter, where the pasties are tendered to the public. "No pasties?", asked Mrs Anubis of the two staff members standing there (no other customers but us in the shop), and was told (after consultation with her colleague), "there are some being heated in the oven at the back -- it'll be about twenty minutes". [in my naivety, I'd have thought we had called at a 'peak time' for Saturday sales!?]

We didn't want to hang around (for just a moment I considered tackling the guy standing by the BAPTIST church leaflet display we'd just passed in the Square) -- but, on reflection, realizing it's a bit like shooting fish in a barrel, we decided, instead, to try our luck at Greggs on another occasion.

Apologies to all for keeping you all in this high state of tension -- especially to my dear friend, Daveb, who is so looking forward to the eventual 'croaking' ....

Is Greggs' HQ aware of the poor management of the Western Road, Brighton branch, where a pent-up demand for pasties is going unmet?
