Thank you LT,but I don't think this site is particularly lucky to have me, any more than anyone else. My belief is that one cannot like everybody, it is not human nature to do so. Unfortunately, in my case, I cannot stand Americans "as a whole"; individually I find them mostly extremely pleasant.
I think it is something I must have inherited from my late father from his days in the army during WW2.

It's a sodding franchise, like KFC, so to be expected I suppose.

In days of old a high street was judged by the presence of big name stores and shops. It is now called cloning. Jimmy Street went to ruin because it lost Sainsbury, COOP, Woolworth, Abbey and some good independents. Boots has remained but looks just the same as it did in the sixties! It is a sign of success that it once more attracts big names.

Xenophobia is a fear and contempt of foreigners. It comes from the Greek words ξένος (xenos), meaning "foreigner," "stranger," and φόβος (phobos), meaning "fear." The term is typically used to describe fear or dislike of foreigners or in general of people different from one's self. ...

Yeah, but I bet there are fewer Americans who hate the Brits than the other way round. The worst anti-Americanism Mrs. BiH had to put up with was when we worked in the UK for a while. It's odd, for the last 15 years we've worked in Arabia where, although the papers are full of anti-Americanism, the people are unfailingly polite, friendly and hospitable. Live in Brighton with an American accent, however, and people see it as an invitation to be rude to your face and hold you personally responsible for everything done by Reagan, Bush, Starbucks, Disney, McDonalds, Walmart etc. ad nauseam. Rude, narrow-minded, petty, patronising little-Englanders! And it was always the so-called 'educated' ones, never the regular people. Gah!

Valhalla, I am coming!

The main problem as I see it is that something happened to our dear LTNS while he was out in the colonies. Either he couldn't get his pasty or someone forgot to put the milk in the teacup first or maybe even ... shock and horror at the very thought ... the girl at the checkout said "Have a nice day" as she smiled. Whatever it is, it must have left a lasting impression on the poor little soul.

Service out there
is better
like in the Burger King, for example,
they have a 60 second clock to serve you
or they get FIRED.
Giving the Customer big Powers.

I thought the 60 second thing at Burger King was supposed to result in a free meal for the customer if the food order was not served in time. Something that did not come across the Atlantic.

Yes a Free Meal and that Staff member removed.

Of course they could do that over here
if they wanted to
but they would need to pay staff more to be that good.
