Well, when it's 45 degrees outside you'd go there, too.

By the way, I will be able to avail myself of St James' Sts' finest coffee soon after all, having just been awarded a scholarship to study in the UK. After 22 years I'm coming home (for 3 years, anyway). It's going to be very strange. When I left "Don't Leave Me This Way" was number 1, Margaret Thatcher was PM and the miner's strike had just ended. Hopefully I'll be able to attend a Forum get-together and with this new Starbucks opening it looks like we've got the perfect venue

Valhalla, I am coming!

I will not be based in Brighton, but will come to visit family
There were plenty of drunks and junkies in Brighton back in 1986 when I left

Although then we had Maggie

Starbucks will be open for my return, I am sure

That will be a FACT

Yes Britian has changed since then.
You will see Fanshaw's new Brighton
As a City. With many new developments.

Visiting Brighton as an escapee is more fun
then living in the town.

Moon enjoys visits back to Brighton to see family.
Best is the Harvey's Beer that you will have missed.
You will like the new libary if you like starbucks.
It's very shiny.

Still only a few people are Brighton Born and Bred.

Most move there as students.

Yes would be great if it is not granted.
Typical of the Greedy Americans to try to finish the shop,
but not all of it inside,
way ahead of any ruling.

If it is as stated A1/A3 then it is only a formality there is no change of status so planning is not needed it is only fire regs (OH and building regs if format of building is changed)

Some people would have us believe that the opening of Starbucks in St James's Street is the equal of Sex and the Ciy opening, and perhaps that too is a non-event, not a patch on three episodes of the television version.

Facebook group is saying that Planning Permissions HAS NOT been granted to the capitalist coffee makers. They have had over 500 letters of objection.

Democracy in action.

They are now going to celebrate by drinking coffee from local indepandant shops. This will put the money back into the community rather than the Rich US Fat Cats

If it isn't a change of purpose is planning permission really necessary?

St. James's Street can take heart from France, which has been successfully telling Starbucks "allez, tenez stuffed".

Is your little recent edit of this post a fishing expedition?

If so, notice the heading of this post on Queen's Park Counciller "Green Ben"'s website: St James's St 1 Starbucks 0 (Half-Time Score).

It ain't over yet.

RESIDENTS and local traders in
St James's Street are celebrating victory
after local planners decided to reject an application
to open a Starbucks coffee shop on the road.
Brighton and Hove City Council's
planning department has agreed
with more than 500 objectors
that a Starbucks store
would damage the unique
character of the street
by replacing yet another shop with a café.

Local planning guidelines
say there must be
a predominance of traditional
shops in the area.

This is fantastic
news and a victory for local democracy.

Utter Bliss
Evil Stabucks Stopped.

What a Great Day.

Yep this is a great day LTNS. Starbucks can appeal but we will ensure their application is turned down again.

They should get the message that we don't want one of their stores on every corner.

Dave, that would be Coffee Shoppee, with the finest Maxwell House granules, served by authentic local traditional trader in orthapaedic leg bandages with expert "thumb-in-the-cup" technique. It's so good to keep the old traditions, you know.

There will be an appeal. Starbucks will win. I cannot suffer much more of LTNS's gloating. The green and black will triumph and capitalist modern coffee franchises will be forced upon the ungrateful populace. Bwah-hah-hah-hah-hah!
