my stepsons soon to be step daughter went for an audition at the "O2" arena last sunday and my Brothers friend went as well (My brothers friend is a bit autistic I think that is a polite way as I am not sure what is wrong with him)Little "Charlotte " who has a great voice went in after spending 8 hours in the rain only to have a 15 second audition where the woman did not even look at her just looked at paperwork, only to be told thank you but bye,my brothers friend who as I have said has problems(he is very hyper as well) got through and so did a couple of other kids with similar problems. What I cannot understand is the FACT that a "TV" company can behave in such a manner!! they deliberately took people who would make a spectacle of themselves and not the real "Talent" all these kids went there hoping to be given at least a chance not to be turned over (that is my opinion and if they want to sue me let them)all it is is a few pre- selected mostly through Producers friends and family and then the ratings pullers (People the audience can take the "PISS "out of they should be banned ) FACT

It's all in here. They want "clingers, mingers or blingers" - the emotionally insecure, the unattractive and the self-deluded. Then they put them in front of the camera for people to laugh at. Those with an obsession with reality tv shows are mainly in it for the schadenfreude - just look at some of the threads we see here on such shows. Laughing at those hand-picked by cynical TV executives provides a lot of enjoyment for a certain type of individual.

I guess Charlotte was far too normal and far too talented to be considered for such a show.

It is a sad fact that these shows do rely on being able to take the piss out of the less talented. If they weeded out too much they would only have enough acts for a couple of programmes.

I have tened not to watch these shows for that reason.
I did however watch Britains got Talent and found that there were some really enjoyable acts this time.

Dave I enjoy programmes that help me educate myself further, these reality shows disgust me purely due to the fact they are waiting for someone to make a fool of themselves!!(Big brother jungle etc etc) there is going to be a day when someone kills some one great for veiwing but not for the poor sap who is dead) FACT. actually it did happen in the states after a Jerry Springer show ,A young lad who was Gay told his flatmate he was in love with him ;his flatmate was straight so he shot him!!! right outside the studio lot

There is however a public interest in variety acts that could have a good side to it.

One wonders if an old music hall could be revived with some of these acts?
Brighton could be a good place for it?

Bring back the Wheeltappers and Shunter's Social Club?

I think the Roman bread-circuses style of humiliation-based reality TV has more chance of surviving. Anyone seen the Japanese movie 'Battle Royale' where misbehaving high school children are put on an island covered in CCTV cameras, given a selection of weapons and the last one standing is the 'winner'. I bet LTNS would start a thread on THAT if it were real.
