Once again it seems that the cry "I want" is in full swing. I reckon these people ought to the grateful they have jobs in the first place in view of the unemployment in the UK.

Would someone please tell me just how much these "bin men" - didn't they used to be called dustmen? - earn a week.

spelling error.

I don't know exactly how much they make (as a max guess around £19,000 a year) but I'd be fuming if the council expected me do drop £8,000 a year from my pay.

It's the same thing as what is happening in Leeds. Instead of lifting the lowest paid to bin pay the council is lowering the bin pay down, why not lower all the senior council officers pay down and get the needed cash to raise the others pay that way. To be honest unless you are willing to see your own pay almost cut in half you don't really have right to bitch about someone else trying to keep their pay the same.

I,m afraid I got the wrong end of the stick and now having gone into this matter further I can only conclude that the B & H council are complete idiots. How can one be expected to take a pay cut of any kind. This is monstrous. I can only suggest that the members of Council who decided on a pay cut for the "dustmen" go and stand upside down in a corner of their choice thereby allowing the little lump of grey matter now reposing at their feet to run back to the vacuum between their ears. When this happens??? it is to be hoped that sanity will prevail.

170,000 pounds a year for a new Chief Executive. The mind boggles. Whose idea was that??..........don't tell me....the B & H council.

I respect their right to strike. But they should be honest, it's a 2 week strike, not 1 week, hence why the bins are overflowing despite today being the 1st day.

The GMB Union speaking Live on Radio 5
claims a New Offer from the Council is on the way to them
so Tomorrow they say if they agree.

They should take any deals by hand
not use slow postage.

Isn't there something called e-mail which also replaced fax machines?

Did the strike start early? I noticed that even yesterday many of the communal bins were surrounded by black bags, and today it's worse, and it's starting to smell bad.

EDIT: just noticed NE's comment above - that explains things.

Amazing!

Didn't take long for the council to cave in did it?

So the new CEO's muscle doesn't really flex that much does it? Taken to cleaners by the bin men after two days.
