Having designated smoking venues would be making a nonsense of the whole idea of a smoking ban in public places though. Like it or not, it`s happening, and if you want to smoke you go outside to do it. Psychologically, it`s helpful to those like me who see the sense but can`t yet give up. We smokers are sort of conditioned to having a mug of tea/coffee or some thing nice in a glass in one hand while we have a fag in the other. Separating the two activities into Either/Or, is actually a very good way to cut down and control ones smoking without actually giving up.

Maybe Fluffy, however having this enforced from above sort of makes a mockery of personal choice.

I didn`t start smoking till I was 26. I still remember feeling very uncomfortable prior to my own downfall, in crowded smoky places - despite the fact that my first husband smoked, and I was used to the smell around him.
So, I respect the non-smokers` feelings.
All that has happened, is that whereas before, it was the non-smokers who were out on a limb (or out in the cold!) but now the tables have turned. And that is fair. After all, smokers have dominated public places for long enough. That`s why I disagree with Miriam, for once!

Feli must envy LTNS the fact that he has no need to use smoking as any sort of substitute. So has he campaign been a form of boasting?

In California it will soon be illegal to smoke in a car if there are children in it.

Should this become the case here?

I can see that a car is the worst place of all to confine smoke - worse than a pub - and also that there are issues of liberty...

It`s been suggested that it will soon be illegal to smoke whilst driving. (On account of it being dangerously distracting) I will happily abide by this if it becomes law, but I would hope they`ll enforce the law against using mobile phones while driving first!

It`s getting colder now, and because folks have to go outside (even if they go to sit in their cars) I`m finding that I and most of my smoking colleagues are only going for a smoke when they REALLY want one, as opposed to just doing it from habit.

Really? Oh I see ... we are invading Iraq because they have WoMD ... oops sorry they don't, well actually we went into Iraq to fight for human rights ... oops we abused quite a few ourselves ... Well, to tell you the truth we went in there to establish Democracy. Yessiree, that was our main aim all along but we didn't want to tell you about it from the start ...

Have you anything to say about the article LTNS or are you just going to repeat your standard mantra?

(A word of advice to the clueless ... repetition of empty phrases does not make them more meaningful!
