I know, and in a sort notice as well they haven't even announced in the dumpthedump website, suppose they are doing it after school so the kids can attend too and with the good weather, hoping that a lot of people turn up.

Remarkable silence by our prospective councillors on the run up to an election on these major issues.
Your not voting for a councillor and local issues anymore, your just voting for party policy rubber stamped by them.

Will things get better I wonder..........

Just one wheelie bin?

Get a fleet of them!

You could tell people en route that within these are the current councillors who are about to be given the heave-ho.

Right ... where can we rustle up 52 wheelie bins at short notice and while we are about it, how about the top exec of BHCC as well?

Wonderful idea!! CPanel and Miriam, that what we are planning to do; through away the disposable councillors + executives all at once, but we need the help of all the people from Brighton and Hove.

The protest went well and better than expected considering the short notice and the support of the kids was fantastic. Present in the protest were the candidated of Goldsmith; Nigel Furness and Peter Poole and of course the three candidates of the dumpthedump. Unfortunatly in the Town Hall refused to accept the bin full of messages deliver inside plastic bottles, but the point was made that we don't want the dump.
People vote wise because we need a radical change in this city !

Glad it went well Guest and that people are still prepared to fight on. Lots of people voting tonight, more than I expected, which is a good sign, I think.

Seeing that councils are thinking of only collecting the rubbish once a fortnight I wonder if they have considered the health risks they may subject us all to.....

Maybe there is a hidden agenda to do with the population explosion?

Nightbird, if this is not bad enough, we do not need much imagination to see (smell) the conditions in which this rubbish after 15 days is going to reach to the waste transfer station, not even with the closed door will pass unnoticed.

The school crossing junction is now lethal with traffic jumping these lights at will in the mornings. It's almost safer to cross against the red lights, believe me, sooner or later there is going to be a serious injury and it's completely preventable right now. There was an accident just after the schools opened this morning at the junction, a van with its windscreen caved in and another vehicle. No point in discussing it tho because nothing will change until someone is injured or worse.

LT, sadly this only will delay the planning.

Don't miss next week: Dispatches(C4) "Bin Wars", broadcast on Thursday 24 May 2007, investigates whether the nation's anger over forthnightly collections is justified.

Not too mention all the bonfires!
All that uncontrolled burning of plastic and other nasty stuff.

Maybe the incinerator is a lesser of two evils?

The loss of weekly collections is dowm to this quango. www.wrap.org.uk
The previous Chief Exec Jennie Price was paid £212k last year.
The new one gets a basic of £150k but may get more with bonuses.

Fantastic is it not!

This was also quite interesting.

Hmmm....that's ok then, because recycling and waste transfer stations have exemplary and outstanding safety records....

Workers evacuated after recycling plant blaze
By Miles Godfrey

Fire crews are battling a large fire at a recycling plant.

The blaze started in a shredding machine at the 45 metre (148ft) by 50 metre (164ft) building on Lancing Business Park.

Six fire crews from Lancing, Shoreham and Worthing were called to the site in Chartwell Road just before 10am today.

Workers from surrounding buildings have been evacuated.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said crews were bringing the blaze under control.

Joe, apparently the same Waste Trasfer Station in Lancing that was open on the 2nd April 2007, and it already was reported complaints about odour issues during Easter time in April, for delays in removal of black bags, non-recyclables, and the problem has not been completly resolved. An article from the Argus archive say how environmentalist have complained after mountain of rubbish were allowed to gather at the recycling centre. A neighbour said that there were so many plastic bags stacked by the bins that they were blowing all over the road, the problem began to develop during Easter weekend ...

It's not a Dump Dave, it's a Waste Transfer Station' for 'onward shipping of non-recyclables to an energy recovery plant.' That's an Incinterator by the way....get with the spin Dave, keep up.
