Has the plug been pulled on this for the weekend, or is it just a temporarfy blip?

Who can tell. It just went off. Try later.
Not much of interest at the moment anyhow.

As far as I know there are 'problems' with the server. Having spoken to admin earlier on today, there are moves afoot to pull the plug on the current forums and to start a new board up simultaneously. The idea is that everyone will have to re-register however a notice will be put up by the Argus Admin of the Argus forums to let all posters know about the migration ... they are thinking of sometime early next week.

Well, the way I understand it, the new forum will be an integrated part of the Argus Website. The claim is that this will mean that they will have more control over the blocking of IS P's for instance. Personally I am not sure that it will work as effectively as they reckon it will as they are not really taking into account the notion of 'Dynamic' IS P's ... I suppose that there could be an insistence that all registrations are from a static IS-P address - so no Yahoo or Hotmail addresses for instance. However that would mean that only people with their own PC could register which I personally think is not really acceptable. After all, there are any number of reasons people will chose to use a 'web-mail' email account to register on a forum with.

In short Dingo, I really do not think that any forums could survive the sort of sustained infiltration such as Oxfordshire and the Argus forums have had to content with for any length of time without a clear policy and active Admin. I am also not confident that the re-vamped forums would be any safer in the long run but ... hope spring eternal.

I don't think I can be bothered with the Argus forum any more. I find it depressing, and as for that intellectual midget Alan, I wish he had fallen out of our overladen car the night we gave him a lift home, the hypocrital little twat.

In all fairness Pelagia, it isn't all Alan ... yes, there is very little doubt in my mind that he indeed brought our provincial little forums to the attention of the Braindead however I think that events ran away with him as much as they ran away with us. Had we a slightly more responsive admin, as in the days of Zoe, things would never have gotten as bad as they had.

I guess me and the DJ
may do another one.

But we will wait and see
if it is a Forum that works well.

In this day and age
full time Admin is the only way.

This Forum is Growing and more safe
and it is great to have the safer 2nd forum.

And if this one goes down
the Five forum is there.

You mean Alan? Yes, there is no doubt about it ... he is extremely needy ... however it went way beyond just being needy. The lad had/has serious issues.

No idea Dingo and don't really want to know either. Somewhere in Eastbourne is about all I know.

Maybe LTNS but it is a fantastic piece of satire and it would be a shame to lose it without even making an effort to save it. It is worth a try surely?

He is a good argument for the abandoning of the whole concept of care in the community.

He is a good argument for strangulation at birth but I wouldn't advise it as a matter of policy

Alan is a runt of the litter late born son in his very early 30's who has one older brother who lives somewhere near the racecourse in Brighton and, according to what Alan told me works for Amex. His parents are elderly both retired and were developing a tendency to globe trot. And that, my dear Dingo is all I know. Oh that and the fact that for a couple of years he made a nuisance of himself with Des Turner and the Brighton Co-op because he felt that he had been hard done by when a security guard at the London Rd., Co-op caught him trying to walk out the store with a pair of Bermuda shorts which he had put on under his trousers. But the Co-op story is known to most regular Argus posters because he posted the whole sad story when he was in one of his earlier incarnations ... I think it was George the Dog.

LT - we are saving your thread. I got to page no 8 (there are 92 I think) when the site went down. But I can do the rest tomorrow.
Don't know what to do with it once it is downloaded. i can copy it to CD for anyone that wants it, but I don't think we would be able to upload it to another site. Hope you are not claiming copyright LT!!

Maybe we could sell it to raise funds to fight the King Alfred development I hear it went through today

They seem rather joined up to me Dingo ... I'm worried I'll start losing the plot here I seem to be having two conversations on the same thread though
