What's the deal with the Argus site? I tried to log in again there and they said I was "inactive" and I had to contact the administrator. Well, I know I don't exercise as much as I should but what is that all about?

It is working Fine from the UK end.

But why in the Blue hell would you go on a Sewer of a Forum.
Run by the back room of the Albion on behalf of
the nasty American owners of the Argus
and every other Regional Paper and site.

Excellent article:
quote:
The blogosphere, which could be a new, revolutionary public space, instead becomes a stale, claustrophobic environment, appealing chiefly to a certain kind of aggressive, point-scoring male - and utterly off-putting to everyone else.
No it doesn't.

FACT!

Why this sudden castration of the Argus forum just before an election I wonder,on the new Argus forum you can't even post links or URLs.

Is this another example of New Labours influence over the press and free speach?

I think it has more to do with the problems that the argus were having with the old forum than anything else.

I'm very dissapointed that everytime I try to enquiry about a local issue I came across the new argus forum and the information is not there anymore. They shouldn't deleted the old forum but then they show us who are the boss . The only problem that I find with livewire is that other local people don't have direct access to this forums from the Argus and that is a lost.

You could, I suppose, ask the Argus to link to these forums.

Miriam, if it was in the interest of the Argus don't you think by now the argus already being link. I agree with nightbird a incredible coincidence just before the elections. For my own observation forums that link (mean on both ways) with newspapers they got a better chance of surviving, just have a look in some local forums.

The Argus may well be hoping that their own forums, as they are now, will kick start anytime soon. Fact is that I personally doubt it. Still, there you go ...

I cannot see the Argus, on its current showing, surviving as a newspaper.

It has missed the boat with new technology and it does not compensate for that by providing hard news. Far too much of it is recycled Council press releases.

If newspapers are to survive, they have to provide news.

You could not forget that the Argus destroyed a forum that took years to build, was the Argus afraid of the competition?

This forum is building up well. What fools the Argus were to trash that one.

What competition? From this little ol' forum that has had more posts on it in the few weeks it has been operational then both the Argus and the Oxford forums together in that same time period?

What I meant that maybe the Argus was concerned about competing with the old forums, maybe many of the old post was linking with articles off the Argus. For me this only complement and enrich the dialogue. I am personally most interest to know the opinions of ordinary people than that of the newspapers.

Seems to me they are content to allow readers to make comments under certain news items. Eg tuk tuk v taxi news item.

I daresay they are caeos ... that is in so far as that they can comment on specific articles.

Think the link to the Argus on LiveWire should be removed until the Argus are willing to reciprocate the same facility to LiveWire.
Just a one way ticket at the moment to the advantage of the Argus..

No they do not care
they just hope to keep the part time Albion back room staff
working for them.

It is a Sewer,
The Argus UK paper people had nothing to do with this
Killer Downsize.
It was the Owners in America
who I hate 100% now.

Gannett Co., Inc are pretty bad but I wonder why they haven't done the same thing to the Oxfordshire Forums?

Then they create 'articles' made by stringing together such comments.
Fine work being done across from Asda. Maybe they should get out more.

Yes, and most of the papers that I checked at random have the same forum set up as the new Argus one.

I continue to feel really angry that the Argus dumped that Forum into which people had put so much thought and effort. It is junking a part of history which means there is no future

I have since then refused to buy the Argus. I will not have it in my place. If the Argus wants to dump history then it does not deserve a future.

I couldn't agree more with you CP. Over four years of comments from people in all walks of life in five continents lost forever. However you try and resurect anything and see what happens.
