South Georgia would have been even better. It would have been a present from Britain.

Hopefully Miriam it is good news. But:

Rice warns on Israel settlements

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice warned Jewish settlement building was having a "negative effect" on efforts to forge a Middle East peace deal.

Only because it suited the Israelis'. It was costing a them lot of money to remain there, and it was much simpler and cheaper to send in the odd tank now and again. Typically they destroyed everything they had built before they left.

Actually they did not Blondie ... much was destroyed after they left. No scorched earth policy was employed by the Israeli ...

I thought I heard that some houses (and a temple?) were destroyed. I will search...it seemed petty at the time I read it but it was not ME being forced from a house I called home. The way things were (are?) the houses probably would have been destroyed rather than occupied anyway. I mean, they were occupied by JEWS after all. Some religous nut would have declared it was better to live in the sand than houses occupied by the non belivers. Arggg!

Settlements will be the undoing of Israel if the Israelies do not wake up and realise it is the ONLY thing that "justifies" outside attacks.

Yes, they were destroyed by the Palestinians - after the withdrawal! I remember seeing the newsreels and thinking, the silly sods ... they could have used those places!

Gaza truce falters, Israel plans Hezbollah swap

However Kuwaiti newspaper reports Israel agrees to restrain itself from attacking Gaza Strip if Hamas punishes organizations violating ceasefire providing Hamas punishes the organizations violating the calm.

Passing up a chance for peace for real estate...argg. Talk about short sighted opportunism. Just go ahead and reinforce the stereotype dear Israeli leadership. This could be the undoing of a great nation if it continues…

"In the 11 months before the Annapolis summit, Israel sought bids to build fewer than 100 homes in the West Bank and East Jerusalem , which Israel took from Jordan in the 1967 Six-Day War, according to Israeli government figures. Since Annapolis , Israel has asked companies to start building more than 1,700 homes, a 1,600 percent increase."

Syria sees no Israel peace before Bush quits

I have to say thats a good sign...at least we know the chance for peace exsists.

The greatest US president of all time will be gone at about the same time the US television industry must , by law, broadcast in HiDef only. Things should look much brighter and clearer in 2009.

A new variation on the constant Israeli cry of " there is no one to negotiate with..." Only this time its the Israeli PM. A real conspiracy nut might say that peace was getting to be too close at hand for a certain faction of the Israeli government.

Shaul Mofaz, Israel's Iranian-born deputy premier, launched a campaign to succeed scandal-struck Ehud Olmert as prime minister with a vow to put the country's security at the top of his agenda....

'Tzipi' ? is that pronounced 'zippy'?

If so, I can see all kinds of hilarity ensuing in the future.
