| No Miriam, it's enough to have a connected TV to pay the BBC charge. |

Miriam you do not have a TV that is your choice.
Most people do have a TV.
And the BBC keeps showing Repeats at Peak hours.
And this 50K fine is paid for by the public. That is wrong.
Corrupt BBC Staff should pay it. |

LTNS ... has this licence fee been something that has just recently been instated?
No, it has not ... it has been part and parcel of first all radio reception and then television reception. It has always been there. It is nothing new.
You do not pay for the radio stations anymore however you still receive them and are able to listen to them. They are all inclusive in the price of the licence. I reckon you are doing well enough. If you don't want to pay for the television licence then you are welcome to disconnect the television. That is a choice! You have chosen not to disconnect your television. So you have chosen to pay the licence fee.
Simple really ...
With all the commercial stations you get inundated with adverts ... so not only do you pay them for the connection and the monthly channel fee but you are allowing yourself to be bombarded by crass commercialism 2-3 times an hour(?) ... you are paying for their fines and other extraneous expenses by watching them. Same difference really only in a different coin. |

LT regardless of the repeats you keep on about which independent TV do just as much as anybody else, when Independent TV receive their licence to broadcast they also receive a subsidy from that very TV (tax )licence fee you moan about It doesn't all go to the BBC. A bit like those companies running bits of British rail that receive subsidies, its to help maintain a public service of some worth and standard. |

The Large Amount that goes to the BBC is wrong. The BBC Stated they would not do repeats, And it does matter to Millions if after a days work, at a Peak Hour 7PM that the BBC is showing Repeats. That is Criminal.
That is something many other channels will not do.
And as for UKTVGold as a example (half owned by the BBC) that is a Repeat channel. Does not come into this debate |

The BBC Tax must go because the BBC is showing Endless Repeats at PEAK HOURS that is criminal.
Television, including the pathetic BBC, has always broadcast more repeats in the summer months, LTNS. Audiences fall away significantly at this time of year. The real money has always gone into the autumn and winter schedules - in fact most of those programmes will either be in the can or in advanced post-production.
Anyway, the pathetic BBC is responsible for more output than simply television. Much of the time we're tuned either to Radio 3 or Radio 4. Where else would I get to listen to all those operas and concerts for such a small sum?
We do have pathetic Sky, which, for some reason, always seems to be tuned to "Most Haunted". |

The BBC wasting Tax Payers money.
LTNS, there is a diffirence between tax-payers and fee-payers. When you start showing that you understand the difference, maybe your other rantings will become more lucid as well. |

The Problem with BBC3 Digital is it costs a big amount a few new shows go on it -then go onto BBC1 or 2. But of late it is the same repeats everyday or a American Movie to fill the time.
BBC3 was not mean't to be a repeat channel at all.

Fluffy you must Understand every paying Customer pays Extra for BBC3 Digital (even those that can not pick it up). It was never ever devised to have a 3 hour American Movie on it (that has been on main TV) the only reason they do that is to fill the main peak time slot up. It was never ever meant to keep showing the same shows every day as though people would watch it on the off chance they have not seen Dr.Who etc.
Paxman is bang on right about the utter Smug mess BBC News is in as well.
CNN news is now less all that banging music/ flash graphics for example. |

The BBC is to cut 1,700 jobs (approx) in News and 1000 in other areas.
Some BBC staff may go on strike later today. From SkyNews Live: Rod Liddle who used to work on the Radio BBC4 just said he does not understand why Thompson has a BBC Vision Dept which is a sort of Creative dept? Rod Liddle also said they should not chase the ratings.
Rod also stated duplication is wrong 6AM to 8:30AM BBC1 and BBCNews 24 are the same broadcast that is very wrong.
BBC Trust Boss Michael Lyons has kept the details until Tomorrow, approx 2,800 jobs going but they claim 1,000 new jobs Manchester move etc.
It will be strange if Paxman walks off of Newsnight tomorrow night, in protest. Maybe Thompson himself should do that show if it has a loss of Newsreader. |

Oh, I see! So because you didn't, they shouldn't? According to the BBC the offer is in line with similar proposals in the Public and Private sector.
Training staff is an expensive process - it may well be that relocation on the whole will turn out cheaper then training up a whole bunch of new people. |

OK, we pay a telly license fee if we have a telly. And thus the BBC is funded. Does anyone out there HONESTLY believe that if the BBC was scrapped, disbanded and dumped out on their ears tomorrow, that the license fee would be scrapped as well? NO, please, surely you aren`t that naieve? We`d still be paying, I`m sure, but getting less choice. |

But LT, you're a manager on a good salary one who can't write and doesn't know the difference between fee and tax payers. I mean hell, you just splashed out on a Blu Ray DVD player. What's £130 to you? Nothing. maybe it's because it represents a massive chunk of your benefits
And as regards repeats, all channels show them, and I think you'll find that the bbc makes the most original programmes. If you subscribe to SKY you pay £300 to £600 a year, and for what? Bought in shows, adverts and REPEATS!

Look, apart from the Godawful `reality ` shows and soaps, ITV shows loads of repeats too. Maybe this goes down well with viewers because so many old `classics` are so much better than the current `reality` crap that you kepp us up to date with... Meanwhile, there`s real `reality` like the Elephant Diaries, available on I-Player too. That`s BBC Bristol. They should get an award for this Utterly Brilliant series. |

Fluffy this is gone beyond Repeats the BBC has had its Money Cut. The Next step should be taking away that BBCTAX.
That will be Common sense in this Current day and Age. I am afraid you are stuck in the past on this viewpoint of paying for the BBC.
Fluffy Check out Primeval 7pm Satudays on ITV. Check out Harry Hills TV burp on ITV Check out Moving Wallpaper & Echo Beach on ITV that is just a few ITV has loads of Brand New Programmes ask someone else as well, because You say you do not want to watch much TV. |

| Has anyone seen the latest gem from the Beeb? I refer to the 90-minute "No.1 Ladies` Detective Agency", set in Botswana. Still available on BBC I-Player if you missed it. Based on the great book by Alexander McCall Smith, it`s charming, moving, sensitive and funny, this tv film must have pleased the author well. Excellent telly, thanks BBC! I can`t imagine ITV would have done this story at all. |
