With the opposition parties now grouped to scupper, the Tory plans, the Council has become an even greater embarrassment to David Cameron, whose HQ keeps trying to distance itself from its activities.

Does not really matter who is in power. The rest will always gang up to stop the so called ruling party.
Hence F all ever gets done in Brighton & Hove. Hence the same tired old so called councillors just carry on claiming the expenses for talking about the same old stuff over and over again,
King Alfred springs to mind.

The Council does not seem to be taking at all seriously the upset it has caused with its plans to close down the Local History Centre and the Booth Museum.

Word is that Geoffrey Theobald is gloating over Mary Mears's discomforts and is angling for the leadership he has long craved.

I've met them both in private life (NOT political!) -- one of the two, I have always found quite presentable.
I have no interest or stake in internal (or external) Tory politics (or for any other party politics for that matter) -- but in view of your comment, CP, suddenly I'm hoping we stay as we are .. |

The Council will not close down the Local History Centre and Booth Museum after protests.
A big climbdown by the Conservatives. Mrs Poppadum says that there has been a very bad atmosphere in the Town Hall, and the Conservatives are split over all this.

New Element Discovered to Be Included on the Periodic Table:
The Nuclear Physics Department of the University of Stellenbosch has discovered the heaviest element yet known to science. The new element, Brihovium (Bhv), has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.
These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons. Brihovium has no electrons, it is inert; however, it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A tiny amount of Brihovium can cause a reaction that would normally take less than a second, to take from 4 days to 4 years to complete.
Brihovium has a normal half-life of 2 - 6 years. It does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places. In fact, Brihovium's mass will actually increase over time, since each re-organization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes. This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Brihovium is formed whenever morons reach a critical concentration.
This hypothetical quantity is referred to as critical morass.
When catalyzed with money, Brihovium becomes Administratium, an element that radiates just as much energy as Brihovium since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons.

Control Panel, re. your last post here re `Brihovium`. Brilliant, whether it`s your own thing or happily found elsewhere, and I`ve shown it to several folks who`ve been in this household - all agree it`s brilliant, and just as relevant to our local situation as it is to Brihovium.

It is becoming a subject of some speculation, which councillors will be standing down next year, for one reason or another, and which face the possibility of not being chosen again by their parties. Mary Mears, for one, does not view with equability the prospect of putting up the same lot again, and Anne Meadows is disgruntled that her husband has not been chosen as a Labour candidate. Some are wondering whether Delia Forrester will try to make a comeback.
